How do you spend your time on and off campus?

I can admit that I have adopted the “TWAMP-y” lifestyle and I am proud of it! On campus, I spend my time studying, working on my senior honors thesis, in meetings and at work in the PRC as a program advocate. I am a committee chair for W&M NAACP and through that I coordinate the Pearl of Great Price mentoring program for eighth-grade girls at Berkeley Middle School. If I am off campus, I am probably at Berkeley with my eighth-grade little sisters! I love my sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and spend a fair amount of time in meetings as an executive board member for the Nu Chi chapter. Aside from the serious stuff, I love spending time goofing off with friends and having great conversations with beautiful people until 2am when I should be studying.

What is the best compliment you have ever received?

My little brother and I are pretty close. I am so proud of him. The best compliment I have ever received was when he told me he is proud of me. As a protective big sister, I always pray that I am being a good role model for him.

You are stranded on a desert island. What MUST you have in your bag to survive?

If I were stranded, I would need to have an axe, a water filter, an anthology of the greatest literary works (for mental stimulation to preserve my sanity), and a solar powered mp3 player (I’m not sure if these even exist lol) with all of my favorite music (including all songs ever created by Musiq Soulchild).

Mention one W&M experience that has challenged you and helped you grow as an individual.

I am so grateful for my entire W&M experience. As a graduating senior, I often reflect on how much I have grown since my freshman year; it is crazy to think about! If I had to choose one experience, it would be my Branch Out International trip with Global Village Project to work with Habitat for Humanity International in El Salvador. It was my first time out of the country, and the experience made me more aware of parts of life that I am ignorant about. I saw poverty like I had never seen and beauty like I had never seen. I am so privileged to go to a school that provides such opportunities like international service trips to its students.

Name some goals you hope to accomplish in the future.

Right now, I am just trying to make it to May 12, 2013 with my cap and gown! Looking more long-term, I hope to become a successful speech language pathologist who provides speech services to children with developmental disorders and who initiates innovative research in the field. Really, though, my goal is just to stay happy and fulfill God’s plan for me.
