One of my goals for my senior year was to join a dance group because it’s been on my bucket list for quite a while. I decided to join a Bollywood fusion dance team called Rangde. Besides getting to learn new dance routines and performing, my teammates opened me to a new world of Indian music. All I can say is Indian music really slaps (slang for “amazing”). They have various genres such as classical music, folk music, Indian pop, Bollywood music and much more. Their music makes you dance and have fun due to the fast tempo and hype beats. Even as you watch the music, it’s filled with vibrant colors and people having fun. Are you ready to add some new music into your playlist? Here are seven songs to add to your playlist.

Akee Lave Jaave by Badshah, Jubin N, and Asees K

This is one of the first Indian songs I actually listened to. I enjoyed the song and the beats. This song was actually the club anthem of 2018, although it isn’t the type of music I would associate with as club music. Anyway, it’s still a song you need to check out. If you enjoy the song, you should watch Loveyatri, the movie it was featured in.

Husn Parcham by Bhoomi Trivedi, Raja Kumari

Whenever I hear this song, I immediately start dancing. I love the beats and the energy the music gives off. The music video makes the song feel sexy and sizzling especially as Katrina Kaif is dancing in the music video.

Ghungroo by Arijit Singh & Shilpa Rao

I came across this song when I was watching a dance routine. The song has a certain type of smoothness to it. Ghungroo is the type of song you would listen to when you are going for a drive to clear your mind.

Mera Wala Dance by Nakash Aziz, Neha Kakkar, Lijo George, and Dj Chetas

If you are looking for something to get you into a good mood especially during this period, this is the song for you. The beating of the drum and the upbeat rhythm really make you move in your seat as you are listening.

Morni Banke by Guru Randhawa, Neha Kakkar, Tanishk Bagchi, & Panjabi MC

This song is very special to me because it’s the song I danced to during my first performance as a Rangde dancer. As most of the songs on this list, it is very upbeat and danceable.

Main Vari Vari by Kavita Krishnamurthy & Reena Bhardwaj

Compared to the other songs I mentioned, this one is more on the softer side. This song is classical Indian music and it gives you some insight into traditional Indian culture. If you are looking for a mellow and chill song this is a good song for you to try out.

O Saki Saki by Nora Fatehi, Tanishk B, Neha K,Tulsi K, B Praak &Vishal-Shekhar

I really love this song. I came across it when I was watching Bollywood dances. The song brings out the femininity of Indian women. Check out the music video and other dance covers of this song asit will get you more introduced to the music.

Check out these songs and add some flavor to your playlist. These are a great way to add variety to the songs you are always listening to while exploring a new culture. You never know, you may love the music and decide to watch some Bollywood movies as a result!
