Top 10 Netflix Picks for Singles on Valentine’s Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wisconsin chapter.

As my roommate gears up for Valentine’s Day with fancy dinner reservations and excessive online gift shopping, I sit in my bed and pretend to be excited for her plans, while secretly being really annoyed that I’m single. However, who needs a significant other when you’ve got Netflix, junk food, and cocktails? Whilst she worries about what to wear and what to buy her boyfriend (like the rest of the world it seems) I compiled a list of the best Valentine’s Day options on Netflix for every mood, aka everything you need to have a successful (single) February 14th with your friends.

1. If you’re feeling girly…

Clueless. Always a movie night classic, Clueless has everything you want from humor to a happy ending. I still get jealous of Cher’s online outfit matcher…why don’t we have that yet?

2. If you’re looking for a classic…

The Breakfast Club is the quintessential coming of age story about strangers who get stuck with Saturday morning detention. If you haven’t seen it, watch it.

3. If you want a comedy…

Ben Stiller never disappoints. If you’re in the mood to laugh because you need a pick me up after being smothered with romance all day, Zoolander is easily the funniest movie Netflix has to offer.

4. If you’re feeling indie…

Warning: It’s sad and frustrating, but the main couple is so adorable it almost doesn’t matter.

5. If you’re looking for action…

Because it never gets old and is appropriate for any occasion.

6. If you want absolutely nothing to do with Valentine’s Day…

Binge watch the first season of American Horror Story. Better than any horror film Netflix has to offer, you’ll be hooked after one episode. And it has nothing to do with romance or falling in love, so that’s a plus.

7. If you’re feeling romantic…

Even though there are already a few chick-flicks on the list, Love Actually never fails to make me smile and put me in a good mood that lasts after the movie is over.

8. If you’re feeling nostalgic…

Don’t pretend that this doesn’t make you miss elementary school. And definitely don’t pretend you don’t know every word to every song.

9. If you’re looking for something new…

Stuck in Love is a fairly new release with very solid performances from the cast. Give it a try!

10. If you’re feeling classy…

One of my favorite movies of all time. Your mind will be blown by the ending.

Happy Valentine’s Day!
