Things To Look Forward to During Spring Semester in Madison

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wisconsin chapter.

The absolute best parts of spring semester

I love the Spring semester. While there are so many things to look forward to this time of year, I constantly hear people talk about why the Fall semester is so much better. And while I love football games and Halloween as much as everyone else, there are so many things to look forward to in the spring that makes me love spring semester so much.

1. Spring Break

This one is probably obvious, but spring semester means spring break. I think that getting a random week off from school in the middle of March and then getting to spend it with your friends or family is definitely one of, if not the best part of the spring semester.

2. The days get longer

Throughout the spring, the days just keep getting longer. Which soon will mean no more walking back home from class in the dark. It also means that soon we will be getting to spend even more time outside.

3. The Farmers’ Market

Springtime means time for the farmers’ market. I love getting to go up to the Capitol and visit the farmers market, and buy fresh produce, cheesy bread and a good iced coffee from a bunch of different local businesses.

4. The Chairs getting put on the Union Terrace

One of the biggest signals of summer is probably the iconic sunburst chairs getting put back onto the Memorial Union Terrace. The first really warm day of the year where everyone is basically fighting for a spot on the terrace with their friends and eating ice cream from the Union is such a day I always look forward to.

5. The first random warm day when everyone goes outside

Every spring there is that random day in March or April when it is way too warm compared to the days around it, and literally everyone is outside. It’s always so fun to finally see the campus so busy and full of people after everyone has basically been hibernating during the winter.

Overall, while I love the fall semester like everyone else, there are so many amazing and fun things that happen during the spring semester to look forward to. So instead of missing fall and feeding into the winter blues, look forward to all the amazing things the next season has to offer.
