If you have not heard of Wings Over Madison, you sure are missing out! Wings Over Madison, a locally owned business, is dedicated to getting you tender, juicy wings right to your doorstep in thirty minutes or less. Hand breaded in the restaurant, these chicken wings are fresh, never frozen bone-in and boneless wings. Wings Over Madison offers 24 mouthwatering flavors, and based off of our findings, you’re guaranteed to find one you love!
We (along with our four other roommates) were given the awesome opportunity to try out six of their greatest flavors, and can’t wait to share with you what our taste buds so pleasantly got to experience.
The six boneless wings we taste-tested were as follows: Sweet Red Chili, Jamaican Jerk, Hot Garlic, Honey Barbecue, Garlic Parmesan, Honey Mustard…and of course, the waffle fries, too!
At first glance these wings were not quite what we expected because they are nothing like your typical wing. These wings are much larger and, from a girl’s point of view, look similar to a chicken finger. Compared to similar restaurants, like Buffalo Wild Wings, Wings Over Madison’s are at least twice the size. In addition, the meat to breading ratio is significantly better; you get more chicken for your dollar.
After an hour of deliberation, here is what we came up with to help you choose which flavor fits best for you!
Sweet Red Chili
Despite the fact that this was the first wing we tasted, we all instantly loved it. It’s tangy but has a little spicy-kick at the end of it when you finish eating it. This makes it perfect for those not huge on spiciness because it’s a happy medium between hot and sweet.
Jamaican Jerk
This wing was more of a toss-up between the six of us taste-testing. We felt it was a hit or miss because if you like spicy, it’s perfect for you; however, if you don’t, keep your distance! To its defense, it smells a lot spicier than it is, but it is certainly not for the fainthearted.
Hot Garlic
Going into this wing, we judged the spiciness based off of its red-orange color, which helped prepare us for the spicy-kick soon to come. While some thought the Jamaican Jerk was hotter, others believed this one made them sweat more. Despite its name, we can’t say we tasted a whole lot of “garlic”…so don’t let that scare you away!
Honey Barbecue
This wing provided the most surprise for us since we were expecting it to taste similar to Buffalo Wild Wings’ Honey Barbecue. For Wings Over Madison, when they say honey barbecue, they mean honey barbecue. Having been the sweetest of all six wings we tried, you can truly taste the honey in the sauce. Definitely something we weren’t used to, but nonetheless, it was among our favorites.
Garlic Parmesan
This one, well, was a little different than the other five. The garlic parmesan wing had seasoning instead of sauce making it drier and, to some extent, more plain. In our opinion, you won’t get an overwhelming amount of flavor if you bite into this wing. We felt it was a plain chicken tender with a hint of garlic parmesan that made it perfect for picky-eaters. If you’re not feeling adventurous, this could be your safe option!
Honey Mustard
Well, we can’t say we would recommend this to anyone who doesn’t have a mustard obsession…which unfortunately included the vast majority of us taste-testing. The wings were covered in a thick yellow sauce that screamed “the mustard” in honey mustard. Although we weren’t overly fond of the sauce, Wings Over Madison’s honey mustard takes a very unique spin on the flavor itself.
And last but not least…the waffle fries!
Waffle Fries
The waffle fries were not your typical fries since there was added seasoning on them. While most of us disagreed, one of our roommates thought they were spicy (just take that with a grain of salt). We loved the fries because they were not overly greasy and embodied the perfect amount of crunchiness.
After reviewing all six flavors, we both have chosen our Top Two recommendations!
