Madison’s Newest Vintage Store: Singlestitch

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wisconsin chapter.

Looking for some sustainable fashion? Look no further.

There’s nothing quite as good as a new, cozy vintage sweatshirt or unique vintage jacket that’s never been seen before. Digging through bins of clothing, as one does at a typical thrift store, and finding something you absolutely love is an unmatched feeling. There’s something so special about when you buy something secondhand: it’s rewarding and exciting to give a second life to clothes and be able to rock something that not everyone can get their hands on.

Singlestitch, Madison’s newest vintage store, can be the place where you can do that. The store was first opened in September of 2021. Singlestitch can be found at 214 State Street, centrally located in downtown Madison right by the Wisconsin State Capitol. The shop is located in a great spot: coffee shops, plant stores and restaurants surround it so if you do decide to go, you can make a whole day out of it.

From the many times I’ve popped in, I was able to see that the clothes in the store are curated to fit a younger demographic. They have jackets, sweatshirts, t-shirts and hats featuring graphics reminiscent of the ‘90s as well as plain, staple items you can wear with just anything. They have vintage toys as well. You can almost undoubtedly find something that will evoke nostalgia from your childhood. Overall, the prices of the clothing are reasonable. Since the store is curated and everything they sell is hand-picked, you’re almost guaranteed to walk in and find something you love. That is why the prices aren’t necessarily comparable to Goodwill or Salvation Army: it’s because they do the digging for you.

Not only are the clothes at Singlestitch incredibly cool, but by buying clothing second-hand, you’re greatly helping the environment. I’ve found so many amazing things in that store and I have no doubt that you can, too. If you do decide to take a second to walk in there, I can promise you will not be disappointed.
