Inner Fire Yoga

As a freshman last year, I could not have been more ecstatic than to walk on campus and see a huge yoga studio overlooking University Avenue. When I heard about Kaivalya, my long life companion and therapist of last year, was closing down I, like many others were extremely upset.

But, fear not students of Madison! A new yoga studio has come to fill the shoes with even better and hotter (literally) classes to choose from with what seems to be an awesome and experienced staff.

Here’s the breakdown of the various classes offered:

  1. Hot Yoga: A series of postures performed in a heated room. Mostly classical style yoga working your entire body (trust me…you will be sore). It involves stretching muscles, detoxifying, building strength, and even some cardio. It’s also helpful for anyone with poor posture.
  2. Yoga Caliente: Looking for something a little adventurous and different? I bet you’ve never taken yoga taught in Spanish before. This class is the same as hot yoga except as you can see taught in Spanish.
  3. Power Flow: Move, breath, sweat, and challenge your body. Music plays during the class to help keep you pumped up and motivated during this flow. Each class is based on the sequence of the teacher’s choice, so try them all out!
  4. Inner Fire Flow: A more moderately paced class with longer holds but still plenty of heat. This class is sequenced meaning it will always be in the same order of poses allowing you to build a strong practice and foundation for the other yoga classes offered.
  5. Slow Flow: A low paced yoga class, best for beginners and new students. This class helps with the awareness of your body, building strength, sweating in a warm room, focusing on your movements and breaths, as well opening of the body and spine.
  6. Candlelight flow: Candles are lit during a meticulously paced class creating a serene atmosphere. This class is more for those who enjoy the meditation qualities of yoga and want to ignite their spirit.
  7. Yin: One hour Tin classes are great for those who wish to restore flexibility and work into their joints and tissues…aka if you run and your hamstrings feel like they are going to snap at any second, take this. This has a bigger focus on restoration and relaxation, rather than strength. Don’t be fooled: for some students this can be the most challenging class.
  8. Core Fire: An upbeat power flow class, perfect for those who prefer faster paces and more cardio, that works everyone’s favorite body part, your abs…spring break is not that far away ladies! These core-focused exercises are also good for alleviating or preventing back pain.
  9. Deepening your practice: This is an advanced yoga class because it incorporates longer pranayama and guided meditation. These require a deeper level of flexibility, strength, and balance. A good goal to work your way towards!
  10. Sculpt: The name says it all. A high intensity yoga class that incorporates resistance training and high calorie burn, and weights! Arms, arms, arms ladies! The energizing music will encourage you to push through each exercise. You boost your metabolism and have a ball. Goodbye toga parties, and hello yoga parties?

Even if you don’t consider yourself a “yogi”, Inner Fire offers a lot of different versions of standard yoga. Grab some leggings, a water bottle (you’ll need it), and turn on your mantra ladies.
