How To: Pack for SB 2014

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wisconsin chapter.

1.     How many days will you be there? As hard as it may be, try to think of a possible outfit(s) for each day you’re there. Choose versatile separates that you can wear a few times and mix and match. If you still have room in your suitcase, give yourself a couple more options for those moments of indecision. Make sure you take into account certain activities you have planned. Don’t forget to pack pajamas and enough undergarments.

2.     Bathing Suits  & Towel (if you’re going somewhere tropical): Bikinis are small so pack a few. If you don’t have a back up you could seriously be in tough waters if something happens to your only swimsuit (i.e. when Noah’s Ark’s “The Point of No Return” ripped my bottoms—tragic day and thank goodness for double lining). Also, BYOT (bring your own towel). Don’t be that annoying person always asking to share and the hotel towels are usually not suitable for sunbathing purposes.

3.     Sunblock & Sunglasses: You want to be tan, not a tomato. Make sure your lip balm contains SPF too!

4.     Aspirin, Pepto-Bismol, and Tums: Make sure you, or someone you are traveling with, comes prepared with these lifesavers. Vacations are meant to be relaxing but jet lag, hangovers and heartburn can strike at the worst times. Better safe than sorry!

5.     Shoes: Don’t forget a comfortable pair, sandals for the beach, heels if the occasion calls and boots/booties that you can dress up or down. Also consider packing a pair of running shoes if you want to go for a run on the beach or on a hike.

6.     Proper outerwear: Check the forecast before you leave and bring one form of outerwear that is warmer than you think you’ll need just in case. Again, better safe than sorry.

7.     Toiletries: Double check that you have all of your makeup, skin & hair products and appliances. You want to look good for those vaca instagrams! Plus some things can be a hassle to find once you’ve relocated. Consider adding dry shampoo, oil blotting paper, tinted moisturizer, and lip stain to your list so that you can spend less time primping and more time enjoying your stay.
