5 of the Best Local Coffee Shops in Madison, WI

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wisconsin chapter.

The end-of-the-year crunch is upon us, and if you’re anything like me, you need coffee — and lots of it! During my time in college here, I have tried out quite a bit of coffee shops, and I have found several favorites! I am so excited to share with you these amazing little study spots. I hope you enjoy them just as much as I do.

1. Valentia

This coffee shop is located on East Campus Mall, making it the perfect convenient location! Though it can get busy, Valentia has a way of still making you feel at home. Locally owned, the owner is extremely nice and welcoming. There are windows lining two of  the walls, allowing natural light to flood the room. This space is modern and sweet. May I add, their iced coffee with espresso is my favorite!

2. Crescendo

Crescendo is simply wonderful. The service is amazing, and the coffee is even better. Their nitro press is one of the best I have ever had, and their cup for it is just as good! Crescendo has locations on Monroe St. and Hilldale Mall — one with a jazzy blues feel, and the other with a modern simplistic look. Both are amazing, and both are a must!

3. Ancora Coffee Roasters

This place is slightly off campus and down University, but it is definitely worth the drive. My absolute favorite is their lavender latte; so tasty hot or iced! To top it off, their food is just as good as their coffee — absolutely amazing. Give this place a try the next time you want to get off campus!

4. Bradbury’s

If you’re looking for some amazing espresso and even better crepes, then I have the place for you. Locally owned, and authentically French, this place will steal your heart. Located in a triangular corner of Capitol Square, this place has cute seating and lots of natural light! Perfect for a quiet morning and early studying.

5. Porter

Located next to train cars, this place has the ultimate location. Porter is rustic and vintage but has a smooth hipster vibe all at the same time. There’s also a huge table in the center that is awesome to study at. Make sure to try their scones when you stop in!

I hope these places provide some comfort and sanity in the midst of finals! Sometimes all you need is a warm environment and a good cup of coffee!
