Throughout my first semester at college, I felt lost and confused because I didn’t know “who I was” or what I wanted out of life. As time progressed, more and more lessons were taught to me. As each lesson progressed, the more about myself I learned.

When you get to college, you’ll probably feel the same way, and I’m sure you’ll have these same realizations. It isn’t strange to feel lost and confused at first–it happens to everyone! But, to keep you feeling better about it, here are some of the things I learned about myself that you can expect to learn about yourself, as well.

1. I thought I could handle 8 a.m’s

But, I quickly realized that no one in their right minds would want to teach a class at 8 in the morning, or go to class in the morning. More importantly, why did I think that I would be okay with this?! You will quickly realize this as well–it’s a lot harder in college to wake up for class than it was in high school.

2. Sleep is hands down the love of my life

What goes through my head during class time, homework time and every time in between time? Sleep. Want it, need it, love it…you’ll see what I mean.

3. I am hard-working and determined.

Sure, there were times where I massively procrastinated, but with time, I learned how to prioritize. When I start something, I am dedicated to finishing it and giving it 100% of my effort. Definitely learn to do the same.

4. I am my best friend and yet my own worst enemy.

I can be my biggest motivator, but I can also be my biggest critic. I can be very tough on myself when it comes to assignments or even real world situations. This is a good thing to be strict on yourself, but remember how special and wonderful you are! Don’t be too hard on yourself!

5. I can do whatever I set my mind to.

If I want it, I will do whatever it takes to get it. Stay motivated!

6. I cannot cook.

Why can’t I have a personal chef? Why must I burn my RAMEN?! Helpful hint? Buy some Easy-Mac!

7. I am appreciative of my mom.

You never truly understand how much of an awesome job your mom has done until there is some distance between the both you.

8. I learned the meaning of the word “responsibility”.

Before college, I had people who would constantly remind me to do my work. I had my mom who would clean and cook for me and once I got to college, I lost that. I had to take a step into reality and learn to do things on my own.

9. My appearance doesn’t define me.

People tend to judge books by their covers and in college–some people even will shred you to pieces! But then again, there are those people who simply don’t even bother caring for such things. Be one of those people, and become friends with those kinds of people!

10. I am more; I am more than just my looks,  I am more than just my GPA. I am more than “just a college girl.”

I have learned this and so much more within just one year of college therefore, I can only imagine how much more I will discover within the next couple of years. I don’t know what lessons will be taught or what skills I will gain, but I can honestly say that I am EXCITED. And you should be too!
