6 Places to Cry at Winthrop When You Just Can’t Anymore

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Winthrop chapter.

Whether it’s finals week, Monday, or just not your day; let’s face it, we all have bad days. Some worse than others. Some days you just have to let it out and cry to make you feel better. You’re not alone and college can be really hard.

The beauty about Winthrop’s small campus is all its hidden spots on campus for you to not only relax and hang out, but let that bottled up frustration out in peace.

Here are some great spots on campus where you can either cry in peace, or cry with a friend to make you feel better.

1. In Digs when the cute therapy dogs visit on Wednesdays

Everyone loves dogs. And if you’re having a bad Wednesday and you’re walking into Digs for a snack, you can’t help but let out that build-up of emotions when you see the purity of a dog at your disposal to hug and cuddle and just have a paw to cry on.

2. The steps of the Byrnes Auditorium

This spot is a bit more public, but also an opportunity for someone who might just walk over to you and give you a smile to make you feel better if you don’t want to be lonely while you let your emotions out.

3. The little hill at the end of the West Center facing Courtyard

This spot is secluded but also a chance to maybe see your friend who lives in courtyard to come out and cheer you up. It’s a great spot to just watch cars drive by without seeing too many people you may know.

4. Winthrop Lake

Prettiest spot to cry in my opinion. And there are so many places to choose from. From right up near the water, on the fishing docks, up by the shack or near the bamboo trees, this is a chance to see some prettier scenery and a chance just to get off campus. It’s just a mile walk and a good chance to clear your head.

5. The Winthrop gardens/fountains outside Roddey and Johnson hall

I’ve had my fair share of seeing a few students/teachers taking a chance to sit on a bench by one of the fountains and just let it out. The sound of the water can drown out some of this sniffles and its close spot on campus to sit between classes when you just need a break.

6. The little bench under the tree in front of Johnson hall

Such a plain and simple but cute spot on campus to call your mom and let it out and not have to worry about being interrupted or seen by too many people. It’s a shady spot and just the right distance from any building on campus for a quiet spot to let it out.

These are just a few of the many places on/near campus you can cry. You can go wherever your heart desires, but just remember it’s okay to let it out sometimes. Everyone has been there. Bad days are only temporary and tomorrow will be better!

Stay positive, Collegiettes!
