5 Things That Happen When I Listen To ‘Hello’ by Adele

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Winthrop chapter.

If you haven’t heard Adele’s new single “Hello,” you have to go listen to it right now. After laying low for a little, the singer/songwriter has come back with a whole new fire and that same old sultry voice. This song gives me all the feelings, which is what inspired me to make this list of things that happen when I hear this song.

1. Crying

I can’t help it, it just sounds so sad and if you listen to the lyrics it’s heartbreaking. Adele has lost someone she loves so much. Haven’t we all lost someone we love? Haven’t we all felt that we were on the outside? Even if you haven’t Adele can make you feel that way.

2. I start to miss my ex, then remember I’m better off

Why do I miss him? He was a jerk. But did I break his heart? Wait no he broke mine? But what if it hurt him too? I DID call a thousand times. He NEVER seemed to be home when I called. Adele must know my life. And when she says “it don’t matter, it clearly doesn’t tear you apart anymore,” the tears start flying. It doesn’t tear him apart anymore. But wait, it doesn’t tear me apart anymore either, I’ve moved on. What am I thinking? I’m so much better without him.

3. Embarrassing singing

And dancing. Doesn’t matter where, I could be in the car, in my room, or walking to class. When I’m feeling it, I’m feeling it. My roommate and I have belted this out together. I’ve gotten awkward laughs and looks from people driving next to me as I sing at the top of my lungs, a single tear streaming down my face. Judge on, this song gets me, it probably gets to you too, unless you have no soul.

4. Lots of questions

Why is she running out of time? Is Adele dying? Is he dying? Is she worried about having kids? Millions of miles? Where did he move? Where is the other side? Why is Adele using a flip phone in the video? What is she sorry for exactly? What did she do? Does she want it to tear him apart? Answer my questions Adele.

5. Thinking I sound just like Adele

Hellllooooooooo from the other sideeeeeeeeeeeee. Okay nope, I don’t sound like Adele. I sound like a wailing cat. But that is not going to stop me from belting out this jam. I must have listened to this song five hundred times. I know every word. I’m going to be so sad when I hate this song because I’ve listened to it too many times. Oh well, I’ll just play it fifty more times today, it’ll be fine.
