By now I’m sure that you have noticed the abundance of Love Your Melon hats around campus. Yes they’re adorable, and yes they’re super trendy, but they also support a good cause. Love Your Melon helps support children who are battling cancer. Love Your Melon was started in 2012 by two University of St. Thomas students for an entrepreneurship class and since then has made an impact across the Winona State University (WSU) campus, as well as many other college campuses around the country.
Every once in awhile you will see a Love Your Melon table in the Student Center of Kryzsko Commons or in the gazebo selling their hats. Any time these hats are being sold they have a BOGO, a buy one, give one. This is where whenever you buy a Love Your Melon hat, you give a hat to a child with cancer. These hats will then be hand delivered by the WSU Love Your Melon ambassadors who dress up as superheroes while visiting various hospitals.
Since their start in 2012, Love Your Melon has reserved over 45,000 hats for children battling cancer through their buy one, give one program. To date there are over 9,000 college students at over 575 schools who are now Love Your Melon Ambassadors for this amazing project. Another thing about Love Your Melon is that all of their hats are made right here in the United States. The thick knit beanies and hats are made in St. Paul, MN, the caps are made in Denver, CO, and the patches for the hats are made at Gotham Textile in Minneapolis, MN.

The more ambassadors Love Your Melon has, the more hats will be given to children fighting cancer.
