How To Get Bikini-Body-Ready For Spring Break

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Winona chapter.

Whether you’re vacationing somewhere on a beach this spring break or relaxing at home, these tips will help get your bod bikini ready.

Drink Water: Not only will it keep you hydrated, but water also helps cleanse your body of toxins and will have your skin looking fresh and dewy.

Get Moving: Hit the gym or if you’re struggling with motivating yourself on your own, attend a fitness class.  Winona State offers a variety of awesome fitness classes.  Even if you aren’t familiar with what they have to offer, check them out anyway.  Who knows, you might end up loving the class and it’s good to get out of your comfort zone.  You can check out the WSU Fitness Page on Facebook for more information.

Stop Drinking Your Calories: It’s no secret that drinking alcohol in excess can contribute to weight gain (we know this especially by being college students) but that doesn’t stop many of us from going out and having a few anyway.  Being mindful of what’s being mixed in your alcohol can help save you some extra calories and prevent unwanted bloating.  Steer clear of sugary juices, soft drinks, or syrups. Opt instead for tonic water, fresh fruit, or club soda.  Keep drinking to a minimum; your waistline will thank you.  Also, those decadent coffee drinks you love so much from Starbucks?  Those are FULL of unnecessary calories and sugar.  If you must have your Starbucks in the morning, get a tall instead of a grande, opt for soy or almond milk instead of the 2% milk they put in there, ask for less pumps of syrup, and ditch the whipped cream. Tip: Green tea gives you a caffeine boost, is said to help curb appetite, and is ZERO calories, need I say more?

Less Processed, More Protein: Get rid of processed foods and fill your pantry and fridge with fruits, vegetables, and protein.  Protein rich foods such as eggs, chicken, and quinoa help to repair and build muscle as well as keep you full for a longer period of time.

Cut the Sodium: Salty foods will make you feel bloated and uncomfortable.

Be Prepared: Pack snacks such as apples, bell peppers, and carrots for when you get the munchies on campus.  This will also help keep you satisfied so that you’re not tempted to grab a junky snack out of the nearest vending machine.

Control Your Portions: Watch your portions!  There are apps you can use that track your calories eaten throughout the day. If you have a Fitbit, make sure you’re logging in your calories on the app.  Some people find it helpful to write down what they’ve eaten in a journal.  Keeping track of what you’re eating helps make you more mindful.

Stand Tall: Having good posture instantly makes you look slimmer and more confident.  So stand tall with your shoulders back and rock that new bikini or one piece (or cozy sweater and jeans if you’re stuck in MN).

Remember these tips and you’ll be bikini body ready in no time!
