As the leaves turn red, flannels come out of storage, and the pumpkin latte trend prevails, we know that fall has arrived. Here at WSU that can only mean one thing, football season is upon us. Here are some classic essential recipes for your game day festivities!

Homemade Buffalo Chicken Wings

Ingredients:

3 tbsp olive oil

3 cloves garlic pressed

2 tsp chili powder

1 tsp garlic powder

Salt and pepper added as you wish

Buffalo sauce

10 chicken wings either frozen or raw. If raw, make sure butcher cuts up wing pieces.

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375. Combine olive oil, garlic, chili powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in a large, resealable bag; seal and shake. Add the chicken wings; reseal and shake to coat. Marinate for as long as you would like and then arrange the chicken wings on a baking sheet.
  2. Bake for one hour or until the chicken wings look crispy.

  3. Remove from pan and apply your favorite buffalo sauce. Some of the most popular include Franks Red Hot, Texas Red Hot, Sriracha, or Cholula.

Beer Queso Dip

Ingredients:

1 tbsp Parkay Original Spread

¾ cup chopped yellow onion

1 cup Budweiser Beer

1 lb Velveeta

1 can Ro-Tel Original Diced Tomatoes & Green Chilies, drained

Pretzel bites optional

Directions:

  1. Melt Parkay in a large skillet over medium to high heat. Add onion and cook 5 to 7 minutes or until browned lightly, stirring occasionally. Add beer; reduce heat to medium and simmer for 2 to 3 minutes.

  2. Combine Velveeta, drained tomatoes and onion mixture into a microwave-safe dish and cover. Microwave on high for 5 minutes or just until Velveeta melts, stirring after 3 minutes. Remove from microwave; stir until mixture is blended.

  3. Serve with pretzel bites!

Pepperoni Pizza Dip

Ingredients:

1 8oz carton herb and garden cream cheese

1 8oz package cream cheese, softened

¼ tsp crushed red pepper

½ cup pizza sauce

½ package sliced pepperoni, chopped

⅓ cup sliced green onions

½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Crackers optional  

Directions:

  1. Heat oven to 350. Combine flavored cream cheese, cream cheese, and red pepper until smooth. Spread evenly in 9-inch dish. Spread pizza sauce over cheese mixture.

  2. Sprinkle pepperoni, onions, and mozzarella cheese.

  3. Bake for 15 minutes or until the mixture is heated through and the cheese is melted.

  4. Serve with crackers!

Mini Pigs in a Blanket

Ingredients:

2 8 oz Pillsbury Crescent Dinner Rolls

48 pack cocktail smoked hot dogs

Cheese slice of your choice (optional)

Directions:

  1. Heat oven to 375. Unroll both cans of the dough; separate into 16 triangles. Cut each triangle lengthwise into 3 narrow triangles.

  2. Place hot dog on shortest side of each triangle. Add a cheese slice for even more flavor! Roll up each, starting at shortest side of triangle and rolling to opposite point; place point side down on 2 ungreased cookie sheets.

  3. Bake 12 to 15 minutes or until golden brown, switching position of cookie sheets halfway through baking. Immediately remove from cookie sheet.
