5 Stages of Starting Senior Year of College

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Winona chapter.

Much like the five stages of grieving, there are five stages of starting your senior year of college. Now, I know you must think that there is no way that you can go through the same stages, but let me tell you: It’s more than possible; it’s real life.

The first stage is denial. Before starting their last year, every senior doesn’t want to come to terms with the fact that soon they are actually going to have to get a big boy/girl job and become one with society.

Next comes anger. You’ve had the summer of your life (no school, no responsibilities) and you’ve just realized that in the next couple weeks you start school, and that’s where it all starts to go downhill.

Then comes bargaining. You take another look at your school schedule and realize that you have class the morning after your favorite night to go out. This is when you try to tell yourself that if you get your homework done before you go, you can still go out and somehow make it to class the next morning.

After bargaining we have depression. Unfortunately, once you graduate you will have to leave your friends behind and more than likely relocate to your new job. It’s a hard one to come to terms with, but at least there’s Skype/FaceTime.

Last but not least we have acceptance. Finally you have come to realize that you can get through your senior year and you will conquer it. It may have taken a little while to get there but you are proud of yourself for doing so.

Good luck to Fall 2016 and Spring 2017 seniors! If you can get through the five stages of starting your senior year, you are sure to have one of your best years yet.
