As the coronavirus continues to impact virtually every person across the globe, it has become extremely important to take protective and preventive measures to reduce the spread. This includes quarantining and practicing social distancing. Quarantining doesn’t have to mean losing contact with the world or sitting on the couch all day. In fact, it can actually be a great opportunity to pick up some new hobbies!

One of the most important things you can do to keep your mind and body healthy is exercise. There are so many home workouts online that you can find with a quick YouTube search. In just a few seconds, you will be overwhelmed by the amount of free options at your fingertips. Whether you decide to workout in your living room or in your driveway, exercise is one of the best ways to avoid feeling down in quarantine. Exercise can be a tool to break up your long day at home, a chance to become more flexible, or just a fun way to get your body moving!

Although quarantining can get old very quickly, it is a great opportunity to learn new skills, such as learning to cook. Our everyday lives are typically so hectic and busy that we sometimes fail to allot time to learn something new. Quarantine is the perfect chance to do so! Having extra time at home is a great reason to explore new dishes you have always wanted to try. Also, many grocery stores offer services that deliver groceries to your door. So with just a click of a few buttons, you can have all the necessary ingredients for your tasty pasta dish in a matter of minutes!

Another great skill that quarantine allows the perfect opportunity for is learning a new language. People always say that the best way to learn a language is to practice it, so if you’re one of those people that always wants to learn a new language, now is the time! There are a large number of free online resources available that will have you fluent ASAP! Whether you’re a beginner or want to brush up your skills, quarantine is the perfect time!

I know quarantine can be filled with lots of doom and loneliness, but there are a variety of activities and hobbies to try while being locked in your house or dorm. In fact, it can even be a time to revisit your New Year’s resolutions. If you look at quarantine as an opportunity rather than a burden, you can actually make the most of it!

I have included an extended list of other activities to try below…

  • Knitting

  • Journaling

  • Learning how to play a musical instrument

  • Catching up on TV shows/movies

  • Starting the books you wouldn’t have time for during a normal week

  • Organizing your closet

  • FaceTiming, Skyping, Zooming, etc your friends and family

  • Learning how to do new hairstyles/makeup (YouTube has SO many videos!)

  • Playing board games

  • And so many more!!!!!
