Every time I go home to visit my parents, my mum and I love having movie nights. On my most recent visit, we watched the movie Bombshell. When it was released in 2019, the movie received major praise and won multiple awards. This was for a good reason. Bombshell is a movie that includes strong women standing up for what is right, showing women believing in women and supporting what women choose to share even when many disagree. It brings forward the stories of Gretchen Carlson, Megyn Kelly and other women at Fox news who brought sexual harassment claims against Hollywood giant and news boss Roger Ailes. This massive scandal shocked the world back in 2016 and the case was highlighted as part of the huge #MeToo era that began gaining popularity in 2017.

Bombshell brought this explosive case back to life. As well, the movie came out just after the height of the MeToo era, bringing the powerful result of that case out to fit into an era of people who speak out against their abusers. At the height of his career, Roger Ailes was one of the most powerful men in cable news and political media. News anchor Gretchen Carlson spoke out after being fired and sued Ailes. Carlson admitting what Ailes had done to her and speaking out publicly about it showed major bravery on her part. It takes a lot of courage and a strong will to speak out about something that could very well ruin you, even if you are in the right. Hollywood and the media are extremely powerful and often dominated by old men who take advantage of their positions of power. Carlson sharing her experience and all of the women who followed in her footsteps and also spoke out paved a path and give women the power to speak out against those who took advantage of their positions.

Bombshell is a movie that provides inspiration to women, and possibly even some men, who have been taken advantage of and harassed when they are just trying to make it in a difficult and complicated world. I saw the movie as having a great deal of motivation and power. It gave me further admiration for the women who put themselves in an extremely vulnerable and difficult situation to create a change. It is inspiring to see women standing up for other women and demanding necessary changes occur.

As well as telling an extremely powerful story, Bombshell heightens its message by using some of the biggest female actresses in Hollywood. Its main stars are Charlize Theron, Nicole Kidman and Margot Robbie who are huge names in Hollywood right now. Their incredible acting abilities help make the already powerful movie even better. Bombshell is a movie with incredible acting, an important message and is overall a great movie to see. I would definitely recommend that you watch Bombshell if you have not already seen it!
