Why You Should Start Watching Hallmark Christmas Movies This Week

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wilfrid Laurier chapter.

I know what you’re thinking, probably something along the lines of “seriously? Hallmark’s Christmas movies are so cheesy and predictable.” This is totally true, but isn’t that the beauty of them? I absolutely love watching these movies as the predictable plot and explosion of Christmas unfolds in front of me every year, it’s a tradition! Will that woman end up with the hot business guy she bumped into in the café? Of course! Will Christmas be saved just in the nick of time? Totally! My mum and I have started watching Hallmark Christmas movies during the end of November every year for as long as I can remember. It’s the perfect time to start watching, especially if you love the holidays like me. I have listed some reasons why you should start watching Hallmark Christmas movies right now too!

1. Get Into the Holiday Mood

I find it takes one full week to fully get into the holiday mood. Decorating, Christmas shopping, baking and watching a list of all of your favourite holiday movies takes at least a week. This makes watching Hallmark movies at the end of November the perfect time to start. It is a great way to kick start the holiday season and get you into the perfect mood for Christmas by the time December rolls around.

2. Stress Reliever

This can be a pretty busy time of the year. I feel like every major assignment and test happens during this week in particular. If you’re looking for a good way to procrastinate, or just want a stress-reliever, then watching a Hallmark Christmas movie is the perfect idea. First of all, it reminds you that all this stress will be over pretty shortly with Christmas just around the corner. This can give you some much-needed peace of mind. Secondly, the Hallmark World is a perfect magical world that’s easy to get lost in. With the beautiful sets, costumes and the kindness of everyone, it’s easy to imagine that you’re a part of the Hallmark magic and forget about the struggles you’re facing for a few hours.

3. Decorating Inspiration

Since most people don’t start decorating until December, watching Hallmark movies at the end of November is the perfect time to start. Every movie set is seriously Pinterest-worthy. Every town, house and building look like part of a perfectly crafted winter wonderland. Maybe you’ll get some cool decoration ideas for your own house after watching some of these movies.

4. Date Ideas

Hallmark Movies can also give you some great Christmas-themed date ideas. This is applicable for a significant other, or fun activities to do with friends. This type of date basically happens in every single movie. Some of them take some planning which is why it’s great to start watching them early!

5. Spend Quality Time with Friends and Family

Grab some friends and family to start watching these movies with! It’s the perfect excuse to spend some quality time together. I find that the cheesier the movie is, the more people tend to bond. My mum and I usually have a competition to see who can predict the characters next outfit, when the first kiss will be and how Christmas will be saved. To spice it up, this can easily be turned into a Christmas drinking game. Perfect to get you mentally prepared for December!

Watching a Hallmark Christmas movie almost every night that I’m free has been one of my favourite holiday traditions. The number of movies I end up viewing sounds a bit excessive, but it’s totally worth it. Hopefully you will incorporate watching some Hallmark Christmas movies this week into your holiday traditions too!
