Tips on How to be a Model Collegiette from Karlie Kloss

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wilfrid Laurier chapter.

Modeling has kept Karlie Kloss pretty occupied, but she has found the time to pursue her passion for learning. Modeling may have been her first career, but Karlie is driven to have many more. In the 2014/2015 school year, Karlie became interested in computer coding, leading her to register as a student at NYU.  In order to follow her passion, Karlie had to hang up her Victoria’s Secret angel wings and trade them in for a school bag. Karlie shows that sometimes it takes sacrifice to succeed as a collegiette.

Here’s what we can learn from the model collegiette Karlie Kloss.

Push Yourself

Even though Karlie’s worst subject in school was writing, she continues push herself to write. She says that if you love what you are doing then you will succeed and continue to grow. Well actually, she quotes Albert Schwartz, saying “happiness is the key to success.” Take a few minutes throughout your day to do something for yourself. For Karlie, being active is a place to redirect any feelings of anxiety.

Failure is Healthy

Mistakes can be the best experiences to learn from. In a Klossy video, Karlie talks about the time she slipped at the end of a runway show in front many of her coworkers. The embarrassing event revealed that you can never prevent failure, but it provides a time to renew your focus.

Be a Super-Nerd

Karlie wants to break the stigma that it is not cool to be smart. Being smart is sexy. Karlie continues to build her career as a super model while balancing being a super-nerd.  Karlie lets her passion for learning code show to inspire the women around her.

Support Your Peers

We all know about Karlie’s role as “Knockout” in Taylor Swift’s music video for Bad Blood. Karlie not only supports her bestie being creative as super hero in a music video, she helps girls develop their super nerd powers by starting “Kode with Karlie”. The scholarship “Kode with Karlie” provided twenty ladies with the opportunity to attend Faltiron School two week summer program where they are taught computer science, specifically coding. Being thoughtful about other people’s dreams is what Karlie is all about.

Enjoy second semester and be a model collegiette!

You will typically see me with a large cup of tea and browsing social media under the fairy lights and reading up on my favourite lady bosses (Mindy Kaling let me be you please). Also my trivia regarding superheroes is endless. I have more music than time to listen to and someone definitely should consider taking away my blogging privileges. My love for pop culture is limitless and Netflix is the true MVP in my opinion. Contributor writer for HerCampus Laurier Stalk me and let's be friends here: Insta & Twitter: webofem
