Six Fun Things to Do With Your Friends on Valentine’s Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wilfrid Laurier chapter.

Unpopular opinion: not all single people hate Valentine’s Day. Love comes in all different forms — and it’s not always romantic.

Why people assume that the holiday of love is the worst day ever for individuals who are not in relationships will always be a mystery to me. Everybody’s life runs at its own unique pace; just because you haven’t fallen in love or committed to someone doesn’t make you bitter about other people’s happiness in their relationships.

So, I have compiled a list of fun activities and sweet gestures to do with your friends — if you too are a single pringle.

1. Go on a dinner date

Who said you can’t make dinner reservations at The Keg with your friends on the day of the celebration of love? No one. Tip toe out of your budget and feast on a nice, juicy steak (assuming no one is vegetarian or vegan) with a glass of red wine (assuming that no one is sworn to the life of sobriety). Find somewhere that works for all of you, and treat yourselves!

2. Or chef it up with your besties

Without being under the surveillance of the terrifying (yet loveable) Chef Ramsay, cooking can be a fun group activity. Plus, if you need to chop anything up, it’s great practice if you’ve ever wanted to become as talented of a dancer as the legendary Drizzy Drake.

3. Have a movie night

Whether it’s sappy romances or goofy rom-coms, settle in with lots of snacks and maybe even some drinks. Just a heads up though: it’s more than likely you won’t even be watching the movie, because ya’ll will be too busy getting the tea from everyone.

Editor’s note: HCWLU is having a movie night on Valentine’s Day! Check out the details here!

4. Have a spa day

Since most of us are likely broke, I do not mean a getaway to a little resort, where you’ll be pampered like the Queen you totally are. I mean, collectively pitching in on face masks and a mani/pedi kit. Your body is a temple after all — and everyone needs some TLC on Valentine’s Day!

5. A Fun Day in the Snow

Rather than give into your hibernating state, push yourself to bundle up and face the cold head on. It’s time to summon your inner child and have a good time tobogganing (or taboozing), skating and sipping on some nice hot chocolate. Might as well make the freezing temperatures a little more bearable.

6. Game Night

Gather up all of your fun games, be it a game of euchre or perhaps a drinking game, like beer pong. There’s nothing like competitiveness putting a wedge in a friendship to get the blood pumpin’.

Basically, all I am trying to say is just because you are a lonely loner doesn’t mean you can’t have fun on Valentine’s Day! You are surrounded by love, so enjoy it.
