How the Heck Do You Tie This Thing: A Collegiette’s Guide to the Blanket Scarf

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wilfrid Laurier chapter.

Have you ever had a morning where all you wanted to do was press snooze, skip class, and stay snuggled under the covers? The blanket scarf is here this back-to-school season to help you slide out of one blanket and into another in the cutest way possible!

The large amount of fabric is perfect for staying warm against the autumn wind, yet also feels luxurious and looks super chic when tied properly. The blanket scarf is versatile as it can be worn as an extra layer by itself during autumn, but it is also the perfect addition for warmth over a winter parka.

The size of the scarf can seem overwhelming at first; I know the first time I tried one on, I felt as if I was drowning in fabric! With the right tips and tricks, though, you can easily turn this blanket into a fabulous outfit! And really, who doesn’t want to be wrapped up in a blanket all day?

1. The Triangle Wrap

Fold the scarf into a triangle and let the point of the triangle drape behind your back and the sides fall in front of your body, giving the appearance of a large shawl.

2. The Belt

Using the same technique from the Triangle Wrap, add a belt for extra glamour and structure or to make the scarf look even more like a stylish sweater.

3. The Infinity Loop

Fold the scarf into a triangle and let the point of the triangle fall in front of you this time. Wrap the ends around your body until they hang the way you wish. You can also hide the ends to appear as though it is one continuous circle scarf.

4. The Half Tie

Fold the scarf into a triangle and let the point fall towards your side. Tie the ends around your neck and let the scarf fall in the shape of a triangle for a laid-back vibe.

5. The Classic

Roll the scarf into a long rectangle and let the fabric fall in front of you. Toss one end of the fabric over your shoulder Frosty the Snowman style.

6. The Drape

Roll the scarf into a long rectangle and simply let the ends drape in front of you.

Where to Buy

The dark brown blanket scarf can be found at Aritzia, while a cheaper alternative is the light pink scarf from Garage.

So next time your alarm is blaring and you are struggling to get out of bed to make it to class on time, remember your blanket scarf is always there to keep you cozy all day long!
