Everything has its ups and downs. There is good and bad in everything you do, and university is included in that. Throughout my time at Laurier, I went through both the good and the bad. There are so many people and places in and around Laurier though that has really made my university experience so great. I am so excited to be graduating this year but everything I love about Laurier is going to make it so much harder to leave.

My Friends

My friends are honestly the reason I made it through university. The people I have gotten to know at Laurier are incredible and I am so grateful to everyone I have met. No matter what role each person played in my life, I am so thankful for all the friends I have made.

The gym

The gym is my happy place. It’s where I go to get myself moving, to wake myself up, to make myself feel a sense of accomplishment and even just to avoid schoolwork for a little.

My job

This one kind of goes hand in hand with the gym because that’s where I work but this is a place I have gained a sense of community and met so many people. I definitely recommend getting a job on campus, they are super flexible, a great way to meet people and obviously, it’s always nice to have a little money.

The Prohibition Warehouse

After four years, I think I can safely say that Pro is my favourite place to go on nights out. The vibes there are good, the drinks are good, and the music is good. Pro is just generally a good time no matter what night you go.

Phil’s on Sundays

Phil’s Nightclub hosts retro nights on Sunday and it is such a good time! My roommates and I love to grab our pitchers and scream the lyrics to all the early 2000s music.

Veritas Café

This little café on campus is actually a recent discovery. I passed it constantly and never went in but a few months ago, one of the girls I work with told me to try it and now I’m obsessed. It’s an adorable little café and the coffee is delicious. They also run a pay-as-you-go market there to assist any students struggling with food insecurities which I think is an incredible thing.

Wilf’s Spin Dip

Honestly, if you know, you know. This dip just hits differently, and I love it so much.

Alumni Field when it’s nice outside

Seeing everyone outside and playing a bunch of sports together just gives me that happy feeling and I love that students have a space now after a lot of renovations to get together and just play. Even if I am not playing, it’s nice to see.

Kentucky Patio in the Spring

In the spring, summer or even in the fall while it’s still warm, a Kentucky patio is the place to be. They have tables with little firepits, and you can drink delicious pitchers of sangria all through the evening. The vibes are immaculate.

St. Patrick’s Day and Homecoming (especially when it’s warm)

I know a lot of people have strong feelings, whether they be positive or negative, towards St. Pat’s and HOCO, but personally, I just love seeing everyone outside and having fun together. It makes me really happy to see the sense of unity and pride in everyone as they all stream outside to just have fun together and not think about anything else.

The Science Atrium

I am not sure why, but when I have to study, the science atrium is my favourite place. With the glass roof and all the trees, it’s a nice vibe and it makes me far less anxious than some other study spaces do.

Concourse before 8:30 a.m. classes start

As anyone who has ever walked through the concourse knows, it is always packed. The concourse before the 8:30 a.m. classes start is a completely different vibe. In my opinion, it just feels so much calmer and like you are awake before the rest of the world, which is a feeling I love. It’s also the only time you can get Starbucks without having to wait in a 40-minute line.

There is so much to love at Laurier and everyone that comes through the school will have the opportunity to have their own incredible experiences. As I finish my time of making memories at university, I hope some of my favourite things about being at Laurier will help someone else find something they love as well.
