The $7 Foundation You Need to Add to Your Makeup Bag

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wilfrid Laurier chapter.

If you haven’t heard of the brand The Ordinary, it’s time to listen up. The Ordinary is a high-end beauty and skincare brand under its parent company, Deciem. What’s different about Deciem is their promise of quality and affordability, which is made possible due to their nearly inexistent public advertising. Instead of spending their money on major ads and commercials, Deciem and its brands do nearly all of their advertising on their own social media channels, which allows them to keep products inexpensive while still high quality.

The Ordinary released its foundations last year around this time and had an online waiting list of over 25 000 people. After about a year, the product no longer has a waiting list, and in my experience ships and delivers very, very quickly.

The Ordinary’s foundation comes in two formulas: coverage and serum. As you probably expect, the coverage is a little thicker than the serum. The coverage definitely has better coverage than the serum (duh), but still feels really light and breathable.

One major plus is that both the serum and coverage foundations come in 21 shades, which is totally amazing. If you can’t figure out your perfect shade, these foundations are inexpensive enough to buy two and customize!

The finish is said to be semi-matte, which I would agree with. It’s not super matte, but definitely not dewy, which is perfect for an oily-skinned gal like me.

Some makeup bloggers have said the coverage foundation is a good dupe for Estee Lauder’s Double Wear, while the serum is a good comparison to Glossier’s Perfecting Skin Tint, but I’ll be honest, I haven’t tried either of those, so I can’t comment.

If you’re looking to give a new foundation a try I definitely encourage giving The Ordinary a shot, and you should try out their other amazing products while you’re there!
