Age: 19

Program: Music

Hometown: Markham, ON

Known as Combo to me, this girl does everything: Rez Soph, Delaware Council President, Starbucks Barista, Volunteer and she’s in the Western Musical!

Why did you decide to become a Soph?

I decided to become a Soph honestly because I lacked confidence in myself in first year and I wasn’t sure I’d have anyone to live with. That’s what motivated me to be a Soph, but once I was accepted and started going to Soph meetings and meeting all the great people I got really into, and excited about the prospect of being a Soph. By the time I moved in I was really passionate about Sophing and everything involved!

What’s your favourite part about being a Soph?

My British Frosh!! (Frankie made me say that). My favourite part is being able to help people adjust to University and building friends and a community feeling on the floor!

What is the role of Council President and why did you want to be Council President?

The role is overseeing everything that Council does, for example organizing events for Delaware. It also involves serving as an advocate between the Council and Housing and facilitating weekly meetings.

I didn’t actually apply for the role! I applied for a VP position but they offered me the role as President! I didn’t think it was something I’d be able to do initially but being in this role has changed me as a person.

What kind of volunteering do you do?

Last semester I volunteered at a family crisis centre called Merrymount near King’s with a club called MusicBox and I worked with toddlers playing games to do with music and lots of activities associated with music.

How do you manage all your time when you do so much?

I’m the kind of person who thrives on being busy so I work well under pressure and  I like having lots to do! I’m also really organized, I have lots of schedules, timetables and to-do lists. I also wake up early to make the most of the day!!

What are your plans when you graduate?

I plan on going to Teacher’s College and then to become an Elementary School teacher.

Where is your favourite place you’ve travelled?

Either Costa Rica or Mykonos (Greece). Because Costa Rica is more than just beaches and tanning for me, it is somewhere I had the best experiences of my life such as zip lining, horseback riding etc. And Mykonos because the whole island is a volcano and it’s so unique – all the buildings are white and blue, it was incredible.

What’s your favourite way to unwind?

Shower, light a candle, drink tea and read a book. My favourite book is Jane Eyre — I think it’s so romantic and I cry every time I read it.

What’s your favourite quote?

“Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid”— Albert Einstein

Finally, what’s your favourite thing to do in London?

I like to go for walks — there’s a lot of good hiking trails around the Thames that people don’t know about or don’t go to enough!

To top it all off, she has the best costume ideas.
