7 Signs You Just Went Through Sorority Recruitment

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Western chapter.

This past weekend at Western marked one of the biggest and most successful sorority recruitments yet. Over 230 girls went through the recruitment process in hopes of finding their sisterhood, and over 200 actives eagerly awaited their newest pledge class. The weekend was one for the books, and whether you went through as a potential new member or an active, you’re definitely hurting after this weekend. Here are seven signs you just went through recruitment:

1. You lost your voice

The weekend involved talking to what seemed like hundreds of girls, when in reality it was only a few dozen. Regardless, you’re definitely getting stares from all your GDI friends as you struggle to speak a few raspy words and chug water in a desperate attempt to regain your voice.

2. Your feet are swollen

Not only are they swollen, but they’re definitely sore and covered in blisters. Standing in heels for hours on end can have that effect, especially because there are so few opportunities to sit and take a break.

3. You’re still sweating

This past weekend was ridiculously hot—like, hottest-day-of-the-year hot. Especially since many venues did not have air conditioning, this made for a horribly sweaty environment that I can still smell…

4. You’re a pro at interviews

Recruitment can honestly feel like an interview at times, especially day one! Constantly telling your year, program, hobbies, etc. can really get exhausting, especially while trying to remain upbeat and energetic.

5. You’re exhausted

This one especially goes for the active members. Recruitment is one of the longest and hardest weekends of the year for actives, and a lot of time and effort goes into planning and preparing. The days are long and hard but so worth it in the end!

6. You’ve found your sisterhood

Obviously, the most rewarding part of the weekend is Bid Day. Actives are so excited to have new sisters to dote on, and potential new members find their sisterhood and get to have one of the greatest opportunities a Western girl can get!

7. You have, like, so many new Instagram followers

Definitely worth the pain.
