5 Thoughts You Get As A 5th Year During Frosh Week

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Western chapter.

So it’s Frosh Week and you’re back at school…again! It’s not uncommon for university students to take a fifth year to finish up a degree. But, like any decision you make there’s always a few emotions and thoughts that come along with it…

“Damn, I am old!”

Sure, you’re still in your early twenties, but somehow when you see the frosh with their lanyards around their neck you, and their buddy system, going pretty much everywhere, you are thinking that you aren’t as young as you thought.

“The bar scene is a little less interesting”

Oh our beloved Ceeps, you are now packed with frosh and the cliché Western ‘pretty boys’ and girls. Although dollar beers are still in your budget, the bar scene seems a little too familiar. Is it time to potentially venture away from the Richmond Row classics?

“Where did my social life go?”

As most of your friends have moved on into the grown up world of full-time jobs (without fall and spring reading weeks), you’re now realising you can list your friends on just one hand (which only means less people peer pressuring you to go out and get #westurnt).

“Am I seriously back right now?”

Just like the stages of grief, you experience frustration with a little bit of anger. Am I seriously back? Maybe I should have just gone abroad… or better yet online… because this is too weird and too different.

“Screw it, I’m gonna kill it this year!”

Finally, you have accepted your choice and the fact that YES, you are going to have another year of ‘day drinking celebrations’ and ‘all-nighter study sessions’. 8 more months of good decisions and bad ones… but life is unpredictable and there are no rulebooks. So, just get excited for the adventure.
