It happens every four years: The U.S. Presidential election. Especially in the past eight years, this election has become more important than ever. With candidates being divided and unable to  agree on any issues. What can we do as everyday Americans to have the changes we want to happen. We can vote! We are luck to have the freedom of choosing who our representatives are, so we better use it. Now, how to register; you can look up the registration in the state your home address is (very important). After that you just have to pull out your State ID and fill out some personal information, it’s that easy!

How can I vote?

There is no reason that you can’t vote! You can do this process from home by opting in for a mail-in ballot (I did this when I was living in NYC). For the option of voting in-person many public spaces turn into voting polls such as; churches, schools and township centers. Now, how to register; you can look up the registration in the state your home address is (very important).

Who’s on the ballot?

Our current President is part of the Democratic Party, so more and more politicians from the Republican Party are opposing him. This is completely normal as usually every opposing party after four years wants to be in office.  So here are the candidates for the 2024 Presidential Election

Democratic Party:

Joe Biden:  As the current President of the U.S his policies are infavor of abortion rights, smashing student debt and making many more jobs for the lower and middle class. He was before the Vice President during Obama’s presidency and the state Representative for Delaware from 1973-2001. With this if Biden wins the election in November he will be the oldest president in Office.

Dean Phillips: Dean is more on the moderate (more in the middle on the  scale compared to Biden) and was elected as a State Representative for Minnesota in 2018. These two candidates have very similar policies except Phillips has shown a disapproval for Biden’s age and party approval rating. Showing he wants to be the face of the Democratic ballot.

Republican Party:

Donald Trump: Former President of the U.S and famous businessman Trump has been persistent in his campaign trail. Very knowingly he has asked states for extra votes during the 2020 election and is now under trial for this. He has appointed 3 Supreme Court Judges in his presidency then months later Roe v. Wade was overturned. During his run in 2016 he has shown a whole new side of America by giving very right-winged Americans a voice.

Nikki Haley: The former Governor of South Carolina and United Nations Ambassador is a more moderate (less controversial as well) republican than Trump. She has shown her interests in a 15-week national ban on Abortion but would like more contraception access around the country.  She has shown her interests as well with climate change, the War in Ukraine and in Israel and giving funding for these issues. With this she has she has shown much more reasonable acts for the ballot

The Independent Party

Robert Kennedy Jr: Nephew of Former President JFK he has shown his non-stop fighting for the independent ballot. He has shown to be an anti-vaxxer and showing a liking to (debunked) myths of vaccines are linked to autism. He has been a very controversial candidate during this election and has been speaking about of his political family ties.

Jill Stein: If you were keeping tabs on the 2012 and the 2016 election then you remember her for running as the Green Party’s ticket. As she has shown support for the right to employment, abortion rights and transgender rights. In the 2016 election she had 1.4 million votes and is asking a 3rd time for America’s support in this election.

What now?

With this information for these parties hopefully this will help with your decision to partake in this election. Voting is very important for our country even on the local level, these politicians are our eyes and ears for the Government and helping everyday citizens have their voices heard. Please Register and Vote on November 5th!
