At the time of writing this, we’re nearing the end of Women’s History Month: now’s a better time than ever to listen to popular as well as lesser known female artists. Whether it’s a sad bop, or a bad b— anthem, these female musicians have the perfect songs for you!

12. Gracie abrams

“I don’t wanna go, we’ve been here before / Everywhere I go leads me back to you”

— Gracie Abrams’ I Miss You, I’m Sorry

Gracie Abrams is the daughter of Katie McGrath and J.J. Abrams — can you say ‘Nepotism Baby’? And yet, even if that’s true, it’s not reflected in her music at all: Gracie’s music is perfect for those days when you want to lay around and listen to sad songs for a while. I would classify her music as somber pop perfect for any rainy day mood.

11. Beyoncé

“I took a vow that from now on / I’m gon’ be my own best friend” — Beyoncé’s Me, Myself, and I

I mean come on… I couldn’t leave Queen Bey out of this list. Beyoncé has been a part of the music world since she was in the girl group “Destiny’s Child,” and has been an empowering female influence in the music industry since. She’s given us bops like Single Ladies, Irreplaceable, Love on Top, and Partition” Beyoncé is the definition of the girl boss we all aspire to be someday, and her music reflects that.

10. haim

“We were on one endless road / But I had a wandering heart” — HAIM’s Want You Back

HAIM is a pop rock group of sisters based in LA. They’ve collaborated with artists like Taylor Swift on their albums. HAIM’s music has a very vintage feel to it, and I’m gonna be honest, I’m living for it. Some of their best songs include Want You Back, Gasoline, and their song with Taylor Swift, No Body, No Crime. Their music is a great addition to any playlist that makes you feel like you’re in a movie.

9. Girl in red

“Looking at the stars / Admiring from afar” — Girl in Red’s We Fell In Love in October

Girl in Red is an indie pop musician from Norway named Marie Ulven. Her music has a summer, upbeat kind of Girl in Red is an indie pop musician from Norway named Marie Ulven. Her music has a summer, upbeat kind of feeling to it. Her songs are very LQBTQ+ inclusive ,and her music spans a few different topics, the most popular of which is love. Some of her more popular songs include, We Fell in Love in October, I Wanna Be Your Girlfriend, and Girls.

8. LIzzo

“I’m like Chardonnay, get better over time”

— Lizzo’s Juice

Lizzo is an artist that everyone should listen to. She’s the body positive, female empowerment queen that we all need in our lives. Her songs are about self-love and life experiences, while also giving us a beat to dance and twerk to.

7. Lorde

“Forget all the tears that you’ve cried / It’s over / It’s a new state of mind” — Lorde’s Solar Power

We all know Lorde from her song Royals in 2013, but her music has grown a lot since then. Lorde’s music is definitely for those days where you need a good cry. Her songs could be classified under indie pop or dream pop. Every time I listen to Ribs by her, I swear I get chills. Lorde’s previous album, Melodrama, was more sad and somber, whereas her newest album, Solar Power, is about turning over new leaves.

6. Maisie peters

“Cause this ain’t no John Hughes movie / Where the girl gets the guy”

— Maisie Peters’ John Hughes Movie

Maisie Peters is an English singer/songwriter that gained more traction with one of her songs blowing up on TikTok. Her songs bring up memories of living room parties, late night drives, and the feeling of being young. She has a really fun vibe, and I find myself absentmindedly singing her songs all the time. Some of her best songs include Elvis Song, Boy, and Maybe Don’t featuring JP Saxe.

5. doja cat

“They wanna pit us against each other when we succeedin’ for no reasons” — Doja Cat’s Woman

Doja Cat is a pop/rap artist that blew up on TikTok and since then has been taking over the music world by storm. Doja has a feminine, empowering energy about her, and her music is music that  most just can’t help but to envy. Her music never fails to make me dance around and want to scream at men who have done me wrong. Doja has the perfect amount of rap mixed with pop, that even people who don’t like rap, like myself, can’t help but continue listening.

4. Dua lipa

“I’ve always been the one to say the first goodbye / Had to love and lose a hundred million times”

— Dua Lipa’s Break My Heart

Dua Lipa is the queen of breakup anthems that have you getting up and dancing ‘til you drop. Her most recent album, Future Nostalgia, has a very ‘80s feel to it that makes me want to bring neon back (not really though). Some of my favorite songs by her include Good in Bed, Don’t Start Now, and Be the One.

3. dylan

“If you think you can do better / Maybe I deserve better” — Dylan’s You’re Not Harry Styles

Dylan is a pop singer/songwriter based in the UK whose songs gained popularity through TikTok. Some of her most popular songs include No Romeo, You’re Not Harry Styles, and Nineteen. Dylan’s music is the perfect, upbeat, screaming-in-your-car-while-driving-at-2-a.m., type of vibe.

2. phoebe bridgers

“There are no words in the English language / I could scream to drown you out” — Phoebe Bridgers’ Motion Sickness

Phoebe Bridgers is another indie artist that’s become really popular recently. Her songs have a very dreamy vibe, and if you’re looking to get into indie music more, I highly recommend listening to her music. Some popular songs of hers are Motion Sickness, Garden Song, and Scott Street.

1. taylor swift

“You kept me like a secret, but I kept you like an oath” — Taylor Swift’s All Too Well (10 minute version)

Number 1 on our list is, of course, our favorite blondie of all time, Taylor Swift. Time and time again, Miss Taylor Swift has given us absolute bangers like, I Knew You Were Trouble and I Did Something Bad, or soft love songs like Paper Rings and Love Story. No matter what kind of mood you’re in, there’s always a Taylor song that perfectly fits how you’re feeling. Not to mention the IMMACULATE vibes of each album because both Folklore and Evermore tore my heart to shreds in the best way.

Now obviously these are just a few of so many talented female artists, and if I tried to mention all of them, I would be writing for centuries. Hopefully you’ll decide to give some of their music a listen and maybe even listen to someone brand new!
