Being a broke college student is the real deal. Even when you have a campus job, money seems to not exist. Although, there are definitely things that we as college kids buy that we may not need. There are better and cheaper options to satisfy our cravings. Here are some recipe ideas to save some money on certain items you buy often. Spending more money on ingredients for cooking instead of restaurants is less expensive. Plus, you get to use these ingredients (that are under $5) in order to make your favorite things.

MINI PIZZAS FOR DAYS

I crave a slice a pizza other than the awful dining hall pizza too often. After a while, these slices add up, plus getting there can be another hassle. Here’s a cheap recipe for mini pizzas!

Ingredients:

English muffins or really any bread you have

Spices of your choice: (oregano, basil, garlic pepper, salt)

Cheese of your choice (parmesan, cheddar, mozzarella)

Tomato sauce

Meat (if that floats your boat)

Vegetables (extra choice)

Directions:

Use all these ingredients and build your pizza how u want. Make sure to oil or butter your bread before it goes in the oven.

Turn the oven to 400 degrees and cook for about 15 minutes

SKIP THE STARBUCKS/DUNKIN

Ingredients:

Strong coffee, kept cold

Milk (2% or any kind)

Vanilla

Sweetened Condensed Milk  OR just sugar

ICE

BLEND

Some of these ingredients may be things you don’t normally buy, but do it once and you can have frappuccinos for days instead of buying one for 5 dollars everyday.

PASTA LOVIN’

Pasta is delicious, simple and reliable. Here’s how to do it:

Ingredients:

Jar of tomato sauce

Jar of Alfredo

Chicken- season with Adobo

Noodles (too many shapes and sizes, all based on preference)

Directions:

Boil water with salt on high

Put the noodles in once pot starts bubbling

Use oil or butter to get the pan hot for the chicken

Rinse the chicken

Season and add to the pan!

Add some Tomato and Alfredo to the pan once chicken is cooked

When the noodles are soft and drained

Add noodles little by little to the sauce and chicken. Stir all together and add more sauce if needed.

BROWNIES

Instead of buying that packaged Cinnabon or muffin for $2 every day, buy a package of brownie mix! There’s Ghirardelli, Betty Crocker etc. Usually, there are only about three simple ingredients to brownie mixes.

Ingredients:

Oil

Water

Eggs

Brownie Mix

Directions:

Usually, there are directions on the back of the box. If you’re not a brownie person, try buying cookie dough you can freeze it and bake cookies whenever you’re having a sweet craving.

FRIES NOT GUYS

Too often I have the craving for fries. It is more work but make them yourself! It’s cheaper, healthier and more natural. You can season them how you want and it’s just better to do yourself because you know what’s being used and put into your body.

Ingredients:

Potatoes

Canola Oil

Pepper, Adobo, Salt, Cajun(spice if wanted)

Directions:

Rinse and slice the potato to your preference(skin no skin, thin or thick.)

Put oil in the pain wait till it heats up

Once it’s ready, throw your potatoes in the pan

While the fries cook (also to your preference just make sure they’re not hard) season them up

I like to use, adobo, pepper, salt, and cajun pepper

Once they are cooked to how you like, put them on a paper towel under a tray

Add more seasoning if needed!

doing my work for better days.
