Working in retail is hard but it’s the most accessible job for students. Over the years, through working in fast food to clothing to luxury brands, I’ve noticed things customers tend to do that really got on my nerves.

1. Extra Discounts

Customers are always asking for further discounts when they reach the cashier. Do I look like I decide the prices? I make minimum wage.

2. No Tap Means No Tap

“How would you like to pay?” “Tap.”

If I say tap doesn’t work, and the terminal says no tap, it means no tap??

3. Coming Into The Store Last Minute

Everyone knows the mall closes at 9:00 pm and yet customers still think it’s okay to enter the store at 8:59, then take another 40 minutes deciding what they want. Girlfriend’s gotta go home.

4. Calling the Manager

Sometimes customers like to believe I’m giving them the wrong information, or that someone can bend the rules for them. And then the manager comes and tells them exactly what I said – loooool.

5. Lost Receipts

How do people expect to get a full refund if they have no proof of purchase? And why are they getting mad at me for telling them something so simple?

I enjoy naps, cake and sarcasm. Besides that I'm in Honours Science at the University of Waterloo!
