What is LASA and how did you get involved?
LASA stands for Latin American Student Association, we are a club that promotes Latin American culture and celebrates the culture diversity through unity. In the past, LASA used to be a huge club but unfortunately the club stopped running before I arrived at the University of Waterloo. I would hear amazing stories from the upper years of how fun and exciting LASA used to be and they encouraged me to re-start it. Through lots of help from my friends and my fellow Latinos this is what we are doing this term, we are re-starting LASA!
Being President; what’s your main goal for the club this year?
As a President, my goal would be to let as many people know that LASA is back on campus and to accomplish three successful events this term. But my main personal goal is to bring back LASA to it’s glorious days.
Who inspires you most?
All of my executive team members inspire me to work my hardest as well as all of the people who came out to clubs day and showed their support. Seeing my executive team being fully committed let’s me know they believe in me and support me every step of the way. All the people who were excited about our club at clubs day got my executives and I extremely excited. Without all these people this club would not be running as smoothly as it is now.
What are you hoping members get out of joining your club?
I hope new and old LASA members enjoy being part of us and meeting tons of new people and forming great friendships. But also trying new things, getting out of their comfort zone and doing a little salsa with us!
What other passions do you have?
I love to dance, meeting people and enjoy a good social gathering. But most importantly getting involved around campus, this is my absolute new passion, I was also an orientation leader this fall for the Environment Faculty and I loved it.
3 words to describe what it’s like to be in LASA?
Friendly, Inclusive, Diverse.
Favourite thing about UW?
I love the large campus feel, it is like my second home. Every building is so unique, walking though campus and breathing in the scenery is very calming.
