Happy International Women’s Week! I hope you are all well-rested after the reading week. I know transitioning back to school after a glorious week off can be hard sometimes. For International Women’s Week, I wanted to showcase some girl bosses that I look up to in my life, and hopefully, you can get some inspiration from them as well! The first woman I want to introduce you to is Dr. Pimple Popper. As someone who is interested in dermatology and skincare, Dr. Sandra Lee is a perfect representation of class mobility and becoming successful as a woman in healthcare. Lee’s parents are immigrants from Malaysia and Singapore, and she had to fight to get into medical school and create a successful career for herself. She is also an influencer on almost all platforms, showcasing that physicians do have hobbies outside of their jobs and that the job is fulfilling and unique.Lee is my career role model, as she is not afraid to show people her true self but is also professional and empathetic towards her patients, as seen on her TV show. She explores her hobbies outside of the clinic and has a family-oriented character. Her drive and passion for dermatology stand out to me and motivate me to keep doing what I’m doing. My wonderful mom is the second role model I want to introduce you to. Like Dr. Lee’s parents, my mom is an immigrant from Vietnam. She started working at 16 in a clothing factory and has not stopped since. My mom willingly works 50-hour weeks and still manages to come home with her bubbly personality and uplift others around her. She is one of the most supportive and kind people you will ever meet and goes to great lengths to protect those close to her heart. She is the type of person who is fierce but always wears her heart on her sleeve. My mom is the superhero of all trades, and I admire her for everything she does and continues to do.So, go tell the women in your life today that you appreciate them and love them for all they do. It took a lot of reflection for me to realize the depth of things that my mom does for me, making me extremely grateful for her. Sending you all hugs during this week <3.
