This year has flown by for me, so the fact that we’re starting our last round of finals for the year blows my mind. With finals fast approaching, it’s time for the reminder to take care of yourself. Many of us get caught up in the stress of the last few weeks of the quarter and forget to take care of ourselves in the most basic ways. We’re all busy studying and working on projects, but there is so much time in the day. Eating a snack or tidying up won’t take much time and it will do wonders. Now that we’ve established the importance of self care, even if it’s the smallest or most basic thing, here are some ideas for how to motivate yourself during finals season.

Change Up Your Study Routine

Studying or doing homework for the same classes can get extremely repetitive. With so little time left in the year, I’ve struggled to find the motivation to keep up with my routine at times. My advice to help combat this is to change up your study routine. Finding a new place to study can help so much. You could try studying in a group that will help you stay focused and hold you accountable. I even made a new playlist of my favorite songs for studying so that I’ll be more excited and motivated.

Take a Break and Reward Yourself

Taking a break from studying is so important to prevent burnout. I also find that having a reward helps motivate me to get work done. Whether it’s having a snack when you finish your assignment or getting to watch a show with your friends once you finish your paper, having a reward to look forward to helps so much.

Spend Time Outside

Back to the idea of self care, spending time outside is good for you and your mental health. Take a study break and go on a walk. Or take your laptop outside and study in the sunshine. The weather has been getting nicer so make sure to enjoy it!

Get Excited for Summer

Finally, remember that we only have a few weeks left of the quarter. You’ve made it this far and are so close to being done! Even if you don’t have fun plans for the summer, find time to give yourself a break and find somethings you’re excited for over the break.
