With endless streaming services and box office busts, it can be difficult to pinpoint what movies we should prioritize seeing in 2023. There may be some twists and turns to look out for in the entertainment world, so I’m here to give you a list of movies I would look out for in 2023. This may not be a fully compiled list, but I’d say these are my suggested highlights for the year to come.

Creed III (March 3)

Michael B. Jordan stars alongside Tessa Thompson and Jonathan Majors in the third installment of the Creed franchise. For Rocky and Creed fans this movie is a must-see. Michael B. Jordan is already enough draw for one to go see this movie, but on top of that, we get the chance to see Jonathan Majors in his second performance at the start of 2023. Sylvester Stallone will not be appearing in this third installment, instead, the franchise is moving in a new direction and dealing with darker tones and evolving themes.

Fast X (May 19)

The Fast and the Furious franchise will follow many great (if you want to call them that) franchise trends of splitting up their finale. The first installment will release this year with a new addition of Jason Mamoa to the cast. If you’re looking for a “wtf is going on” action packed movie, Fast X is the movie to watch this year. The Fast and Furious franchise has leaned into its “over-the-top” moments in its last few installments and Fast X should not fail to live up to those moments

The Little Mermaid (May 26)

Halle Bailey, from the duo ChloexHalle, will be starring as Ariel in the upcoming live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid. Alan Menken and Lin Manuel Miranda will team up to write the music for this adaptation. With a blend of new songs and songs from the original animated feature, this adaptation will be one to look out for in 2023. Halle was heard giving a beautiful rendition of Part of Your World in a teaser released in 2022. The hype for this movie grows as the date of its release becomes closer.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (June 2)

The success and critical acclaim of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse should carry on to its sequel coming at the beginning of the summer. As fans have been familiar to multiple Spider-Man’s in the same universe, this animated film will be sure to up the scale and deliver a top film in 2023. The score and animation work seen in the first movie are enough to bring you to go see this movie, and if you haven’t seen the first one…you have to now.

Barbie (July 21)

Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling in Greta Gerwigg’s Barbie movie will be the perfect summer flick. The dreamhouse, outfits, fresh-out-water trope, and star-studded cast should make this a must-go-see for the summer. Barbie will be a fun summer movie to go see with your friends.

Oppenheimer (July 21)

Christopher Nolan releases his 12th film this summer starring Cillian Murphy as the German scientist developing the first atomic bomb. This film will display an immense amount of practical technical work and top performances from some of Nolan’s consistent actors. This will be a spectacle on the big screen and in IMAX theaters this summer.

Dune: Part 2 (November 3)

The first part of Dune left with a lot of questions and a bit of dissatisfaction, but the second part coming this fall should give us a great introduction into the series. We’ll finally get to see more of Zendaya in this film as well as more of Timothee Chalamet’s strong performance alongside her. Hopefully, we’ll see more of where this series is heading in the second part.

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes (November 17)

With little news coming out about the film adaption of the prequel to The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, readers of the book have gathered some hype over the new movie. Following President Snow in the early years of the Hunger Games, the prequel will include darker themes and compelling ballads that will be conversation starters leading into the holiday season.
