Music is a universal language; it communicates what words cannot. People often see music as just a form of entertainment, but it’s more than that. Music has the power to change lives for the better. I know for a fact that music has changed my life for the better, and I couldn’t imagine my life without it.

Simply put, I started singing before I started talking. I could hum melodies before I could even sing the words, and I started learning Indian Classical Carnatic music from the age of four. My love of music led me to dance, and I began learning Indian Classical dance at the age of eight. Music has given me a way to embrace my culture and my roots. It’s allowed me to connect with people that I never thought I’d meet and given me a community unlike any other. In other words, music has given me a second home.

I turn to music for any kind of emotion I’m feeling. It’s a comforting feeling to know that there’s someone out there who knows and understands how you feel. I know music always has my back and is always there for me. If there’s ever an emotion that I can’t express, in my heart, I know that music will always help me understand my emotions and help me feel better. That’s the magic in music.

Lately, I’ve really been enjoying artists that put raw emotion and soul into their music. My three favorite artists of all time are Shawn Mendes, Halsey, and Billie Eilish. If you’re ever looking to listen to some soulful songs, here are my recommendations:

  • Colors by Halsey
  • Nightmare by Halsey
  • You Should See Me in A Crown by Billie Eilish
  • Idontwannabeyouanymore by Billie Eilish
  • In My Blood by Shawn Mendes

Music has completely changed my life. I cannot imagine what life would be like if I didn’t start singing at such a young age, and I’m so glad that music entered my life, because I’m never letting it go.
