Let’s hear it for women in science and technology!
Bonnie Dunbar rules. She was the alumna of the year in 2004, and graduated from the University of Washington in ’71 and ’75 for ceramic engineering.
She’s also got some impressive stuff on her resume. When she was an undergrad at UW, she helped to develop ceramic tiles used so that ships could re-enter the atmosphere. Oh, you know, no big deal.
In 1978, she began her career at NASA, and in 1981, she became a NASA astronaut. Since then, she has held several honorable and high positions in the field, and even spent time in Russia training cosmonauts and flying to the Russian Space Station.
Bonnie Dunbar is super inspirational, and certainly makes UW proud. Bonnie, HC Washington loves you!
