4 Last Minute Ways to Celebrate Spooky Season

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Washington chapter.

I don’t know about you, but this quarter has been ZOOMING by for me. It seemed like just yesterday I was purchasing my school supplies– ecstatic at the thought of all the fall activities I would do this quarter–meanwhile I don’t even have a costume ready for Halloweek! Yikes. Midterm season is truly hitting new levels this year. *Hopefully* this doesn’t sound like you, BUT if it does, now what? Does this mean we shouldn’t find some ways to celebrate spooky season in the midst of exams? Of course not!! While I totally commend going in full swing for Ambitious Autumn, it is ALWAYS a good idea to live in the moment and enjoy life! Here are a few ways you can creep it real with a busy schedule and still have a spooktacular time this Halloween season:

1. Go to a Pumpkin Patch

My roommates and I went to a pumpkin patch this past weekend and my heart couldn’t have been happier. From the endless options of pumpkins to choose from to the fluffy goats to pet to the plethora of aesthetic fall pictures that are now on my phone, I couldn’t have asked for a better day! Whether you take a bus, Lyft, or pile into a friend’s car, you cannot go wrong with visiting nearby pumpkin patches such as Serres Farm, Jubilee Farm, or The Farm at Swans Trail

2. Visit a Haunted House

While I did volunteer at a haunted house once, I have never actually walked through one. However, I have heard FABULOUS reviews about the Georgetown Morgue Haunted House in Seattle and the Maris Farms Haunted Woods in Buckley. Built in 1928, The Georgetown Morgue Haunted House is one of the most peculiar morgues in the country. While the building itself is not well-known, the stories of the deceased it housed will be sure to keep you up at night. Or if you’re feeling up for an even scarier challenge, consider visiting the Maris Farms Haunted Woods where they don’t allow flashlights in their wooden trails. AT. ALL. Did I mention it’s in the woods?!

3. Attend a Halloween Party

Whether you plan to step out with your ghoulfriends or your main boo, you can never go wrong with a classic Halloween party. From house parties to Greek-life parties, you should make sure that your costume is wicked awesome. If you’ve got some extra time, you can release the inner craftswoman in you to create an eye-popping costume. You can also thrift shop to find endless options of costumes that are fun and inexpensive. Or if you’re really in a crunch for time, you can always expedite online orders!

4. Binge Scary Movies

I’m 99% confident that I can count the number of scary movies I have watched on my fingers. Clearly, it’s not my thing! Therefore, now is the perfect time for me to step out of my comfort zone and I encourage you to do the same! Some movies I’ve been encouraged to binge include: It, Paranormal Activity, St. Agatha, and Insidious. Buttt there’s a mighty chance I’ll end up watching my favorite Halloween movie (don’t judge me), It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, because its wholesomeness warms my heart!

However you end up celebrating Halloween this year, I hope you have a gourd time!
