Kai Skallerud (2017)

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wash U chapter.

Meet Kai Skallerud. This freshman plays varsity tennis, sings, cooks, and let’s not forget is a total cutie! Sorry girls, this one’s taken. Boys take notes. Kai is from Minneapolis, Minnesota and spent his summer traveling for tennis tournaments and NANNYING a 13-year-old girl (this guy is too good to be true). He is a down to earth guy who enjoys listening to country music and creating completely insane concoctions in the kitchen with his friends. Read on to learn more about this week’s cutie.

Hometown: Minneapolis, MN

Grade: Freshman

Major: Biology (pre -med)

What’d you do this summer? I played a lot of tennis. I played in USTA tournaments and went to Urbana, Illinois, Macon, Georgia, and Rapid City, South Dakota… Oh and I also nannied for a 13-year-old girl named Sophie.

A nanny? Yeah, I drove her around, coached her for tennis for free, and cooked for her.

Fave song: I Want Crazy by Hunter Hayes

So you like country music? Yeah, I like Carrie Underwood, Lover Lover by Jerrod Niemann, and Dirt Road Anthem that’s a really good one.

What other types of music do you listen to? I really like mashups and alternative.

Do you sing in the shower? Of course, usually to Suit and Tie by JT

Fave food: Fettuccini alfredo.

How long have you been playing tennis? I’ve been playing since I was 7 years old.

Besides tennis, what do you want to get involved in at WashU? I’m considering trying out for acapella next year.

Acapella? You sing? Yup!

Any other hidden talents? I’m also a really good cook. My friends and I like to try and recreate recipes from Epic Meal Time, which is a youtube channel. (He showed me the channel guys and I was both grossed out and incredibly hungry at the same time).

Celeb crush? Either Mila Kunis, Carrie Underwood, or Beyonce.

What’s your go-to dance move? Obviously the pin drop.

Pet peeve: M&Ms…I hate how they crunch it just freaks me out!
