Five Underrated Netflix Shows to Procrastinate With

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wash U chapter.

Sick and tired of watching and rewatching the same netflix shows? Here are five Netflix shows to watch that aren’t “classics” like The Office, Friends, Gossip Girl, Parks and Rec, or Breaking Bad.

1) Dynasty

The show follows an extremely wealthy family from Atlanta and the scandals, relationships, and even murders that surround their lives. It is definitely worth the binge-watch; the Netflix-original show is only one season, but new seasons are predicted to come out soon.

2)  On my Block

This show profiles five teens living in the “bad side” of Los Angeles, in the town of Freeridge. It is drama-filled, exploring the ups and downs of high school, teenage relationships, and the dangers and gang culture involved with Freeridge. Again, the Netflix-original is only one season but definitely worth the time.

3)  Freaks and Geeks

Freaks and Geeks is another one-season show based in the 1980s, following teens attending McKinley High and focusing in on the social dynamic in the school. The show focuses on two main groups, the “freaks” and the “geeks”, and the relationship between and within the groups; it’s a super entertaining and comedic show for procrastination.

4)  Switched at Birth

As the title implies, teens Daphne Vasquez and Bay Kennish were switched at birth, each ending up in the wrong families and living completely different lives. The show profiles them both and the relationship between the families after finding out about the switch. It’s filled with drama, romance, and suspense and while it is a longer show at five seasons, it manages to keep you hooked.

5)  The Good Place

After death, one either goes to the good place, where everything is perfect, or the bad place, where things are, as the title implies, bad. The show follows a woman, Eleanor Shellstrop, who was placed in the good place by mistake, and is trying her best to act “good” and stay. Only two seasons are out so far, but it is a comedic, entertaining show.

I can attest to the fact that these shows are great because I have finished all of them, either binge-watching or procrastinating. If you want to be well-versed on Netflix shows and not resort to rewatching classics, I highly recommend watching these.
