Festival Foods, the Best and Worst of Austin City Limits

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wash U chapter.

Honestly, 50% of me goes to music festivals for the food. You get to try endless yummy treats in between your favorite bands. This weekend I went to Austin City Limits to rank the top 5 festival foods from worst to best!!!!

5. Fried Plantains with Mango Salsa

I think the picture says it all. These fried plantains tasted like stale cardboard. The mango salsa was soo yummy and ALMOST saved the dish but not quite. Definitely did not go back for more.

4. Grilled Cheese on Focaccia with Cheddar, American and Apricot Jam

When you’re tired from singing and your legs hurt from dancing, nothing is better than a warm grilled cheese. It wasn’t bad, just not outstanding. The apricot jam was so good, there was just barely any of it. If you’re like me and spoiled with Roxy’s Grilled Cheese in Boston, it is hard to not be a grilled cheese snob.

3. The Mighty Cone Fried Avocado Chicken

This was my first food tasting at the festival. My from who is from Austin said it was a must-have! She wasn’t wrong. Fried avocado and chicken in a warm wrap with idk-even-what-sauce was perfect. I just wish it had more avocado!

2. The Salt Lick Brisket Sandwich

Apparently The Salt Lick is the best BBQ in Texas so it was my go-to on day 2 of the festival. It did not disappoint. The yummy sauce on a toasted bun really hit the spot. It also filled me up for the whole day.

1. Peli Peli Fried Mac and Cheese Balls with Truffle Sauce and Sweet Chicken Kebabs

This was my favorite place all weekend by a long shot. Just looking back at the pictures makes my mouth water. The fried mac and cheese balls were unlike anything i’ve had. I could have eaten the truffle sauce on top with a spoon. C’mon who doesn’t LOVE anything with truffle?! And then the kebabs. Okay so some people may wonder how a kebab could be this good. But seriously, it was sweet and spicy. The meat was cooked perfectly and it all came on a stick so we could eat while we walked to the next concert. PERFECT!
