Anyone who knows me well knows that I am a TV show connoisseur. Not only have I seen a variety of different shows, but I have lots of opinions on the shows I have seen as well. Here is a guide to some of the most popular shows for every mood.

Parks and Rec

I personally think that Parks and Rec is a classic and extremely well-done sitcom. Being written by the same writer from The Office, it is evident that it is a polished and well-thought-out show from the first episode. The only issue with the show is that I think it goes downhill once Rob Lowe and Rashida Jones leave the show, but all in all, one of my favorites! I recommend watching this when you are looking for a lighthearted feel-good comedy.

Friends

Watching the group sip coffee at Central Perk and hang out in the classic apartment never fails to make me feel comforted and at home. The late 90s and early 2000s vibe of the show always makes me feel warm and at home. Friends has the perfect balance of funny scenes and heartwarming storylines. I recommend watching this show when you feel lonely, uncomfortable, and sad, it never fails to put me in a better mood!

Schitt’s Creek

This newer comedy is definitely one of the most creative and funny storylines of all TV shows. But while being outwardly ridiculous at times, it is impossible to not become attached to the characters in Schitt’s Creek. Their genuine characteristics and humanity make them not only relatable but realistic as well. I recommend watching Schitts Creek when you’re looking for a funny and happy show to keep your mood up!

Grey’s Anatomy

While by no means a comedy, Grey’s Anatomy is and will always be one of my favorite shows of all time. From the engaging characters to the tragic accidents and occasionally comedic moments, there is certainly a Grey’s Anatomy episode for whatever mood you are in. Grey’s Anatomy is also LONG – with seventeen seasons and counting, you have to know what you are getting yourself into before you start watching. Regardless, I will always think it is an amazing show, I recommend watching it when you are looking for a new, long term, show.

The West Wing

I started watching the West Wing over Christmas Break, and it is now one of my all-time favorite TV shows. I absolutely love the characters and the storylines keep you watching episode after episode. While a little bit on the older side (the show was made in the late 90s), the show ages amazing and remains one of the best shows on television. I recommend watching when you are looking for a mixture of drama and comedy, and are prepared to get attached to the characters.

Criminal Minds

While sometimes creepy, Criminal Minds has always been one of my favorites. It is hard to find another show as intriguing, engaging, and with such well thought out plot lines. Especially in the later seasons, the storylines go from being more realistic to incredibly complex plotlines that leave you at the edge of your seat. I definitely do not recommend watching Criminal Minds before going to bed (speaking from experience, it may give you nightmares), but it’s a perfect show for when you want a detailed storyline and multifaceted characters.

Gilmore Girls

Gilmore Girls is hands down one of the most nostalgic TV shows of all time. I for one want to live in Stars Hallow, eat at Luke’s Diner, and go to Chilton with Rory. While Rory sometimes annoys me for being to perfect (hot take, but I think the season where she drops out of Yale is the one where I liked her the best), the show has a sense of nostalgia and comfort that keeps me going back and back. I recommend watching this when you’re looking for a feel-good, comfortable show.

Gossip Girl

Probably the most dramatic show on this list, Gossip Girl is also a classic in my opinion. While extremely extravagant and sometimes overdone, the characters remain likable and kind throughout. My main issue with the show is the later seasons – I think it went downhill once they graduated high school, but still an amazing show. I recommend watching this when you miss the big city and are looking for drama.

The Office

The Office has to be my favorite TV show of all time. It never gets old and never fails to make me laugh. But what’s so amazing about the Office in my opinion is that not only is it hilarious, but it also has the love stories that make it meaningful. I truly think there is an Office Episode for every mood, and believe that the Office can make any day better!
