Walker Young (’13)

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wake Forest chapter.

Name: Walker Young (‘13)

Hometown: Houston, Texas

Major: Political Science and History

Career goal: I plan on going to law school after graduating from Wake in the spring of 2013. Last summer I interned in Washington D.C. for a senator, and I hope that one day I too can work on Capitol Hill.

Relationship status: Sorry ladies, Walker is currently dating a senior here at Wake Forest, Christina Milanese.

Sign: June 4th – Gemini

If he’s not studying in the ZSR, hanging out with his friends at one of his fraternity parties or relaxing over a coffee at Campus Grounds, you might find Walker in a classic Stetson cowboy hat. It’s true ladies; Walker is a bona fide Texan cowboy … too bad he’s taken!

Her Campus (HC): Do you have a special nickname?
Walker Young (WY): My friends used to call me Kurker …

HC: Kurker?
WY: Yeah, Kurker because that’s the way I used to pronounce my name with a mouth piece in while playing sports.

HC: What activities are you a part of on campus?
WY: I am the social chair for Sigma Nu fraternity.

HC: What your most embarrassing moment at Wake?
WY: My first tailgate ever I was told to dress up nice by one the fraternity guys that was rushing me … and I took that to mean to wear a full suit to tailgate. I wore the suit, and it turned out to be like 95 degrees that day. I was sweating through everything. People kept looking at me saying, “That guy’s wearing a full suit, and it’s 95 degrees outside.” To say the least, I felt a bit uncomfortable.

HC: That must have been miserable.
WY: Yeah, it was not fun.

HC: What is your game plan for exams?
WY:I am going to find a deep, dark corner in the ZSR and stay there, pray a lot and hope for the best. I’d say that’s about it.

HC: What are your holiday plans?
WY: My family spends Christmas at our ranch, which is always a lot of fun. Also, my girlfriend is coming to Texas for New Years, and we have an annual blowout party every year.  So it should be a good time.

HC: Do you have any goals for the new year?
WY: My New Year’s resolution is to make better grades – and I guess go to the gym and relax.

HC: Just trying to get your life in line?
WY: Well, get it more in line than it is now. I am going to try and get an internship.  That’s something I need to do, but otherwise, I am pretty happy with the way things are now.

HC: What’s your favorite thing on campus?
WY: I love Campus Grounds.  I go there all the time.

HC: What are some random facts about you?
WY: My family has a cattle ranch in Texas.  It’s pretty amazing.

HC: So you are like a real life cowboy?
WY: I wouldn’t say that, but sometimes I do wear the hat.

HC: Who are your celebrity crushes?
WY: I watch a lot of Keeping up with the Kardashians,so I would have to say Kim Kardashian … and she’s single now so you never know, right?

HC: What’s your favorite movie?
WY: The Blues Brothers is number one, then The Godfather and Thank You for Smoking.

HC: What is your biggest pet peeve?
WY: Definitely people walking slowly.

HC: What do you look for in a girl?
WY: A sense of humor. That’s so important … and intelligence. You need someone who can laugh at themselves and can joke around with you. Otherwise, it’s no fun.

HC: What is your favorite outfit?
WY: A polo and jeans, and I guess in the winter months a jacket as well because I’m from Texas and get cold pretty easily.

HC: Do you like a girl best in a dress, skirt or jeans?
WY: If they look good in any of those, that’s cool with me.  It doesn’t really matter.

HC: What is your favorite food?
WY: I am a little bit Cajun, so red beans and rice.

HC: What is your favorite part about Winston?
WY: I like the seasons here because in Texas we don’t have seasons at all.

HC: What is your ideal date?
WY: I’d say drinking beers and watching funny movies.

HC: What do you do in your free time?
WY: I don’t know; I’m a junior and don’t really have free time!  In the time I have I try and catch up with my family and chill with my friends. Watch sports games and such. I gotta cheer for the Cowboys!
