This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wake Forest chapter.

Name: James Smith
Class: Medical Student, Wake Forest Undergraduate Class of 2009
Relationship Status: Single

Her Campus (HC): Hey James! So we know that you are a medical student. What is your career goal, as of right now?
James Smith (JS): To become an interventional cardiologist.

HC: Wow! What are you most looking forward to for the rest of the semester?
JS: I am excited to be in internal medicine right now because it will lead to cardiology.

HC: What does your typical day look like?
JS: I wake up at 5:30 a.m., and I get to the hospital at 6 and pre-round my patients. Then I start rounds at 7. And then rounds until lunch, and there is a lecture at lunch. After that, you go to work—go through whatever the patients need with them, rounds, check-out with the night team and then go home around 6. And then I eat and study and go to bed around 12 or 1 a.m.

HC: Whoa you’re busy … what do you do in your free time?
JS: I love to play music –the guitar – and recently I have filled in with the bass for Carolina Blend. I love to go fishing when I can. Usually in Boone or Virginia. When I am home, all I do is fish.

HC: Pretty cool! Let’s switch gears–any nicknames?
JS: I had a bunch, but my favorite is “Jimmy Legs.”

HC: What about a favorite travel destination?
JS: Israel, because it is beautiful, and I love its history.

HC: How about your most embarrassing moment?
JS: I was in physics class as a freshman, and I was pledging a fraternity at the time, and I was exhausted and sitting in the back of the room and was leaning my head against the wall. I was dozing off and was simultaneously holding in a fart, and when I dozed at one point, I relaxed and it started coming out, which made me wake up. And when I woke up, I tensed to try and stop it, but it just made it louder and everyone heard it, and even the professor stopped and was confused! But I was so tired that I just went back to sleep. Then, when I woke up later I was super embarrassed.

HC: That is pretty bad! Okay so what is your favorite TV show and movie?
JS: “Portlandia” and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and I used to be a huge fan of “Scrubs.” My favorite movie might have to be Forrest Gump … I don’t know why I love it so much. Also completely unrelated, I loved Inception.

HC: What Disney princess are you and why?
JS: The one from Sleeping Beauty. Because she is classic, and if I want to, I can totally sleep for over 12 hours.

HC: Do you have any family traditions?
JS: On Christmas, my cousins and I go out on the boat, and we have wetsuit dance parties. The wetsuits are way too small for us!

HC: Who is your hero?
JS: My father. He is a cardiologist and a theologian. He is incredible.

HC: Any pet peeves?
JS: When people change their personalities because someone from the opposite sex is around.

HC: Who is your man crush? Celebrity crush?
JS: Brad Pitt, clearly. I am a huge sucker for Jennifer Connelly.

HC: If you could meet one person, who would it be?
JS: Either Teddy Roosevelt, George Patton, or Ernest Hemingway—I feel like we would get along. He is kind of a hero of Floridians.

HC: What is playing on your iPod right now?
JS: Coldplay and Jump Little Children.

HC: What is your favorite thing to do in Winston-Salem?
JS: In the summer time, I like to go to the rock quarry (but that’s illegal).

HC: Now on to the ladies … what is your idea of the perfect first date?
JS: I would pick her up and we would go do something, preferably something that she has never done before, something active. And then we would eat together and then get her back home by a decent hour. Movies can be good, but after the first date.

HC: What is the biggest turnoff when you first meet a girl?
JS: Smoker.

HC: What is your biggest turn-on when you meet a girl?
JS: A funny girl.

HC: Boxers or briefs?
JS: Briefs. Or commando …
