6 Ways To Have a Great Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wake Forest chapter.

Sometimes college is hard. You have a million things on your plate, and life get pretty overwhelming. I have a few things that I make a priority to ensure I have a good day, even if some things go wrong:

1. Meditate.

This sounds so new age and weird, but I promise just 5 minutes of quick reflection can change your day. Deep breathing and focus can add a much-needed level of calmness to your life. I love the app Breathe: it selects specific guided meditations based on your current mood and anxiety state! It’s a free app and so easy to use! Try it out first thing in the morning, and watch it melt your stress away!

2. Be kind to yourself.

We are always our own worst critic and are rarely gentle with ourselves. Small mistakes become big problems when we constantly beat ourselves up about them. Give yourself a break and move on. You’re only human! Think about how you would treat your best friend and treat yourself that way. By being caring to yourself, you will let yourself move through your day with ease and not sweat the small stuff. You’ll feel confident and powerful to handle anything that comes your way.

3. Stay organized.

This is a huge one. Keeping a clean room and a tidy desk can go a long way to help you feel in control of your life. These may seem unnecessary when you have a busy week or feel stressed out, but walking home to a trashed room is only going to make you more stressed out. Set a timer for 10 minutes and quickly tidy up your room. It’s insane how much you can get done! It will give you the clarity you need to have a great day!

4. Plan your day ahead of time.

I recently started doing this and it has changed my day-to-day life! Before I go to bed, I take out my planner and right down my meetings, my classes and my other obligations. Then, I make a list of the things I need to get done. I see when I have free time and schedule that in my to-do list. It helps me clear my head before I fall asleep, and I end up getting so much more done! I can get the most out of my day and make time for the things and people I love!

5. Wake up earlier.

Having a great start to your day can seriously change things. Give yourself an extra 20 minutes in the morning to relax, read a devotional, check your email or whatever else eases you into the day! That extra time will give you a chance to prepare for the day ahead and make your morning stress-free.

6. Wear clothes you feel good in.

When you look good, you feel good! Feeling confident in your skin is the best way to guarantee a good day.  Wear clothes you love and feel your best in! Spend a few extra minutes spicing up your make up and hair— it will give that extra boost to have the best day ever!

Life is hard, and not every day is going to be great. But you deserve to feel your best and have as many good days as you can! College is only four years, and you want to cherish and remember every day you have. Take the initiative and try out these tips: a great day awaits you!
