10 Songs to Add to Your Coronavirus Playlist

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wake Forest chapter.

I’ve always loved making playlists for myself, but since the beginning of quarantine, I’ve spent a little too much time finding new songs to add to my music library. A few days ago, I saw a “30 day music challenge” on Instagram, where you share a new song each day. Music is a great way to distract yourself while stuck in your own home. There are many pre-made playlists out there inspired by the Coronavirus, but if you want a specialized list of songs, here are a few you may consider adding.

“How Far We’ve Come” by Matchbox Twenty

This is personally one of my favorite songs ever, and it’s all about looking back on all the good things in life when faced with adversity.

Favorite lyric: “Let’s see how far we’ve come.”

“Sky’s Still Blue” by Andrew Belle

I love this song because it dares you to believe that no matter what you’re going through, the sky will still be blue on the other side, and I think hope is something we all need a little more of during this pandemic.

Favorite lyric: “Oh if you’re hearing this, I must have made it through.”

“Angela” by The Lumineers

This song shows how beautiful it is to be “home at last.” Hopefully, one good thing to come out of this quarantine will be stronger familial relationships and a sense of safety and comfort from being at home.

Favorite lyric: “Oh Angela, it’s a long time coming. Home at last.”

“Good News” by Mac Miller

All we want during this time is some good news, but this song also helps you come to terms with the fact that sometimes there is no good news. Sometimes, we don’t have all the answers, but that’s no reason to stop looking ahead to tomorrow.

Favorite lyric: “Good news, good news, good news, that’s all they wanna hear. No, they don’t like it when I’m down.”

“Times Like These” by Foo Fighters

There is no doubt that these are strange times we’re living in, and we have to learn to reorganize our lives and schedules to fit the new (temporary) normal.

Favorite lyric: “It’s times like these you learn to live again.”

“Are You Bored Yet? (feat. Clairo)” by Wallows

On a bit of a satirical note, the main outline of this song is two kids getting bored from watching the sunset at home. Relatable? Umm, maybe a little bit.

Favorite lyric: “When we get old, will we regret this? Too young to think about all that sh*t.”

“Everything Works Out in the End” by Kodaline

The title says everything: hold on to hope because we’re going to get through this.

Favorite lyric: “They told me everything works out in the end.”

“Those Nights” by Bastille

In this song, Bastille reminds us that we’re not the only ones wanting to find hope somewhere, or even just wanting someone to talk to. We all miss how life was just a few months ago, and we all want something or someone to find comfort in. We’re not alone in this.

Favorite lyric: “‘Cause aren’t we all just looking for a little bit of hope these days.”

“Don’t Stand So Close to Me” by The Police

Another song meant to make you laugh. This is recommendation number two (after washing your hands) during this pandemic.

Favorite lyric: “Don’t stand so close to me.”

“We’re Not Gonna Take It” by Twisted Sister

No, we’re not going to take it. This virus is spreading too fast and too quickly. Let’s all do our part and stay inside to keep everyone else safe!

Favorite lyric: “We’ll fight the powers that be just don’t pick our destiny.”
