Virginia Tech Campus Events You Should Consider Attending

Spring semester in Blacksburg can be a bit dreary. The freezing cold weather and lack of football games can get us all down every now and then. I decided to compile a list of events coming up at Virginia Tech and in Blacksburg to lift our spirits and give us something fun to do during these cold months.

Gobblerfair – January 27, 2023

Gobblerfair is the winter counterpart to Gobblerfest. It is a great way to find organizations to join at Tech! It is being held in Squires Student Center, so it’s a quick walk from campus.

Student African American Sisterhood Hair & Beauty Showcase – January 31, 2023

SAAS at Virginia Tech is hosting a hair and beauty showcase for any girls on campus looking to try new styles or want to learn some new hair and beauty tips. Everyone is welcome, and the event will be held in Owens Ballroom at 6:00 p.m.

Black Student Alliance Met Gala – February 11, 2023

Virginia Tech’s Black Student Alliance is hosting a Met Gala event! Attendees should dress formally, and are encouraged to dress to a past Met Gala theme. This event would be a great opportunity to dress up and have a special night during the midst of a busy semester. A ticket purchase is required.

Valentines Day Dinner at West End Market – February 14, 2023

West End is doing a Valentines Day special seating where students can pay a dining plan fee to enjoy a decadent dinner on campus! Attendees receive a four course meal of foods that are much fancier than the typical dining hall options. Seats can be reserved for a $68 meal plan charge on GrubHub! This is a great way to have a special date night if you live on campus, or eat a delicious meal for galentines day!

Valentines Day Poetry Workshop at Blacksburg Books – February 14, 2023

Blacksburg Books on Main Street is hosting a poetry workshop with Sophia Terazawa open to writers of all levels. Advanced registration is required with a fee of $20, but all participants receive a copy of Terazawa’s book of love poems! If you’re an aspiring writer/poet, this is a must attend event!

Hokie Wellness Sleep Better Techniques – February 22, 2023

If you’re looking to sleep better in 2023, make sure to attend the Hokie Wellness Sleep Better Techniques workshop. The virtual program educates attendees about healthy sleep and teaches tips for improving sleep quality.

Even though spring semester can seem like a bit of a drag with the sun going down at 5:00 p.m. and the weather being all over the place, everyone should make the most of it. By putting yourself out there you might find a new friend, or an organization you want to join.
