Today marks the first day of November, which is the start of a month that is representative of giving thanks to many individuals. It is also a month considered by many to come together and help out those in need for the holidays. There are many ways to contribute to your community and this article highlights a few you can easily contribute to for the month of giving.

Food drive

Food drives are the most common way of giving back to the community, and one of the best ways. It helps so many individuals and families in need as well as gives them a place to go for Thanksgiving. There are many food pantries in every area; no matter where you are, there is one around. Ways you can help out with this is by donating to a food drive hosted by an organization, hosting your own food drive, or even just bringing canned foods directly to a food pantry. No matter how you decide to donate, anything is helpful.

New river community action

The New River Community Action is a great volunteer opportunity such as donating, holding drives, and overall helping the community. Each year, they have 1,000 volunteers that contribute to more than 35,000 hours of service in the community. They believe that “ending poverty is an attainable goal through joint community efforts. Each of us has something to contribute; each of us can play a part.” Want to be a part of this effort? Visit their website here.

letters against isolation

Another way to give back is to write letters to those who don’t have a family. This time of the year is family-centered and it can be difficult for those who don’t have family surrounding them, especially in a time where COVID-19 is still rapid. Letters Against Isolation is an organization that creates letters to senior citizens in isolation. This is a great way to help brighten someone’s day during the holidays. Want to learn more? meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels is another opportunity to get your creativity flowing with some arts and crafts. This organization has a lot of opportunities for you to decorate items such as oven mitts, greeting and birthday cards, placemats, lunch bags, and much much more. Meals on Wheels has a ton of opportunities for anywhere to contribute without delivering meals. To learn more about what you can make, visit the Meals on Wheels website here.

No matter what you do to help your community, anything and everything helps. While November is a month of giving thanks and giving back to others, these are things you can easily add to your routine and continue to do throughout the year.
