Let’s Make Pinning Productive!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Virginia Tech chapter.

So…who’s obsessed with Pinterest? Don’t lie. I know you have it open in another tab right now. If not, I’m not sure what you’re doing with your free time or in class. Unless you actually are productive and do pay attention in class, but who does that anyway? There is an infinite amount of useful information on Pinterest; but if you’re anything like me, you see a Chocolate Covered Cookie Dough bites that photographed really well and repined them. We’re busy college students after all, we don’t have much time to waste baking fancy desserts all day. I propose an idea that may sound crazy: let’s use Pinterest to our advantage as college women and follow boards that relate to us and can inspire us in ways we never thought possible. So, if you’re looking to focus your pinning, here are a few boards to check out, along with some of their helpful pins.

HerCampus
Well, this one seems slightly obvious. This totally girly collection of boards include Sorority Love, Oh, Hello Handsome!, Spring Break Must Haves, and Products We Love. Since you already have HerCampus open, why not check out the Pinterest? Just like the HerCampus websites, many other branches have their own boards. That was a less than subtle hint to check out the HC Virginia Tech boards.

CollegeFed
Features a Cheap, Easy, and Delicious Food board. The meals are simple, delicious, and can be made on
a tight budget. If you don’t already know how to make “Eggs in a Hole,” a trip to this board may just be worth it. Some other promising recipes include Ritz Cracker Crusted Chicken and The Ramen Omelet.

Studentrate Trends
These boards were made for us! There are 16 boards spanning a wide range of topics from trendy clothing, makeup and hairstyles to trendy dorm and fitness décor. Don’t forget, no Pinterest is complete without a recipes board. A personal favorite is the [Party] board—bubblegum or Skittles infused vodka, anyone?

Uloop
Although still getting started, Uloop is a “college marketplace” for students. They haven’t got too many pins, but I’d keep these boards in the back of my mind. Some cool boards they already have: College Sports, College Fashion for Women, and Campus Life. Looks like these up and coming boards may have information regarding College Internships, DIY and Scholarships.

Chobani
Maybe I’m the only one, but I am obsessed with Greek Yogurt. Scratch that, any type of yogurt (Frosty Parrot, anyone?).  I personally love the Chobanic Creations board, which includes recipes that use Chobani as an ingredient, like Fluffy Apple Cinnamon Pancakes and Chobani-covered fruit and granola. Besides focusing on a healthy lifestyle, Chobani has boards for inspirational quotes and high technology.

America’s Test Kitchen

Okay, I couldn’t make a complete list of fun Pinterest boards to follow without including a board entirely focused on food. You can check this out without guilt, just check out a fitness board after for some Thinspiration. Some cool boards from America’s Test Kitchen include: Big Game Food and Do it Yourself: Homemade Foods.

Health Magazine
Alright, let’s balance out the last board. Check out Health Magazine’s boards for healthy ways to exercise and lose weight, all while eating well. Health Magazine has boards like Healthy Inside and Out, Health News, and Health Tips and Tricks. Did you know jumping rope can burn 132 calories in just 10 minutes? Spring break, here you come!
