How to Have a fun Spring Break Without Going on Vacation

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Virginia Tech chapter.

Not going to Miami this break? You’re not alone. Sitting at home doesn’t have to be as boring as it seems. Take some tips on how to make the best of the week.

1.    Sleep

Okay so maybe you won’t come back from break bragging about how much sleep you got at home, but why not? At this point in the semester, a break feels kind of overdue. Take a day to relax and catch up on all the sleep you’ve missed studying for exams before you have to start waking up for 8 a.m. classes again.

2.    Visit Friends at Other Schools

Remember all those times you told your home friends you were going to visit them at school but never got around to it? This is the perfect opportunity to catch up with them before summer break and experience college life at another school.

3.     Spa Day

It’s definitely stressful sitting at home when all of your instagram feed is pictures of friends traveling somewhere cool for spring break. Take a breather and destress at a local spa by getting a massage or a mani-pedi. Maybe bring one of your family members with you and get some quality self-care bonding time in before you won’t get to see them until after finals.

4.    Road Trip

It’s easy to get sick of your hometown if you’ve been living there your entire life. Grab your keys, put on your favorite playlist and go on a drive to somewhere new! If there’s any good hikes near by take advantage of the free time and check out the view. If you’re staying in Blacksburg head over to Dragon’s Tooth or visit the Mill Mountain Star, a man-made star that has stood in Roanoke for over 65 years.

5.    Movie Marathon

Remember those surprise snow days in high school where you got to stay in all day in your pjs watching movies? Think of spring break as another opportunity to relax and enjoy having no homework or responsibilities for a short time. Make some snacks and binge watch your favorite movies while you can.

6.     Unplug from Social Media

The best thing to do if you aren’t going on some beach getaway this spring break is to not worry about what everyone else is doing (aka not checking snapchat obsessively which many of us are guilty of doing) and remind yourself that this is a BREAK. It’s meant to give us time to relax and worry about nothing. Besides, if you’re missing out this is a good time to start saving up and plan some fun trips over the summer.

Just a funky lil girl trying to put my thoughts into relatable words!!! I've had the dream of being Anne Hathaway's character in Devil Wears Prada since I was like three. Maybe without being someone's bitch, but you know, everyone has to start somewhere.
